According to the findings of the “Territory-wide Physical Fitness Survey for the Community” released previously, hiking was among one of the most popular physical activities for members of the public. The findings also reveal that children of parents who participated more in physical activities are relatively more active. To promote hiking, which is a moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity suitable for the whole family and beneficial to both physical and mental health, as well as conducive to building up a strong body, and to cultivate the idea of active exercise in the family, the website of “Hiking Scheme” is specially produced for enjoyment of hiking by members of the public.
The website provides information on 44 hiking routes with distinct characteristics in Hong Kong for selection of suitable routes by members of the public according to their preferences, physical abilities and experiences.
