Whites and Yellows in Urban Parks

Whites and Yellows are medium size butterflies. Wings are mainly white and yellow in colour with black and red markings. Flying speed ranges from medium to high. Like visiting flowers for nectar.

Red-base Jezebel (Delias pasithoe) Medium size. Very common and can be seen all year round. The population of this butterfly species will suddenly increase in winter. It is much less frequently seen in summer.	Great Orange Tip (Female) (Hebomoia glaucippe) Large size. Common and can be seen all year round. The largest Whites and Yellows in Hong Kong. Easily distinguished by the large triangular orange marking at the wing tips. Female has a series of black markings along the hindwing margins.
Great Orange Tip (Male) (Hebomoia glaucippe) Large size. Common and can be seen all year round. Male has no black marking along the hindwing margins.	Indian Cabbage White (Pieris canidia) Medium size. Common and can be seen all year round. One of the commonest butterflies in Hong Kong.
Lemon Emigrant (Catopsilia pomona) Medium size. Common and can be seen all year round. Very active and seldom stops. A world famous migratory species.	Mottled Emigrant (Catopsilia pyranthe) Medium size. Common and can be seen all year round. Very active and seldom stops. Usually paler than Lemon Emigrant.
Three-spot Grass Yellow (Eurema blanda) Small size. Uncommon and can be seen all year round. Flying speed low and seldom stops. Its hindwings are rounder and smoother than those of Common Grass Yellow.	Common Grass Yellow (Eurema hecabe) Small size. Very common and can be seen all year round. Flying speed low and seldom stops. Its hindwings are more angular than those of Three-spot Grass Yellow.
