SHA cheers for Hong Kong athletes in Fuzhou (with photos)

 

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah,  watched events involving Hong Kong athletes at the 1st National Youth Games (NYG) in Fuzhou today (October 20) and encouraged them to pursue excellence for Hong Kong.

In the morning and afternoon, Mr Lau watched various NYG events and cheered for the athletes. The events included wushu (taolu), gymnastics and tennis. He encouraged the athletes to take the opportunity of participating in the NYG to enhance their own strength and that of their team, and to interact with and establish friendships with athletes from other areas.  


Mr Lau also had lunch with members of the Hong Kong team to learn more about their training. He visited the accommodation of the team members and looked at the medical equipment in the athletes' village. Mr Lau was delighted to learn that the Hong Kong team was awarded one of the top prizes for best entry procession by the media on the day of launch ceremony. The other areas receiving the award were Fuzhou, Taiyuan and Xiamen.

In addition, during his visit to Quanzhou yesterday (October 19), Mr Lau met with the Mayor of Quanzhou, Mr Kang Tao, and the curator of Quanzhou Maritime Museum, Ms Ding Yuling, and exchanged their experience in arranging cultural exhibitions. He also visited Quanzhou Maritime Museum to know more about the key role of Quanzhou in the development of the Maritime Silk Road and other heritage sites to learn more about the development of the relevant aspect.

Mr Lau will end his three-day visit today and return to Hong Kong in the evening.
