Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition

 

In view of the latest developments, Hong Kong Flower Show 2020 (including Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition) had been cancelled in order to reduce social contacts and the risk of the spread of the novel coronavirus in the community.

9 am to 12 noon (Junior Section & Senior Section in Primary School)
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm (Junior Section & Senior Section in Secondary School)

Aim

The Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition of Hong Kong Flower Show 2020 will feature students’ impressive drawings of exquisite flowers, rare plants and unique garden displays in the showground with a view to enhancing their awareness of conserving plants and the natural environment.

Theme

The theme of Hong Kong Flower Show 2020 Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition is “Bliss in Bloom”.  Participants may draw or paint any floral exhibits or garden displays in the showground to illustrate the theme.

Category

The Competition will be conducted in four categories, they are :

A. Junior Section in Primary School (Primary One to Primary Three)
B. Senior Section in Primary School (Primary Four to Primary Six)
C. Junior Section in Secondary School (Form One to Form Three)
D. Senior Section in Secondary School (Form Four to Form Six)

Method of Entry

1. Applications must be made by school capacity.
2. In view of limited space of the showground at Victoria Park, the total number of participants will be restricted to 2,400 and the number of participants from each school should not exceed 12.  In case of over-subscription, places will be allocated to participating schools on the basis of order of submission of applications. The organiser will notify participating schools, in writing, of the results of allocation on or before 21 January 2020 (Tuesday).
3. Participating schools should complete and submit online application on or before 30 December 2019 (Monday). For details of application, please call 2720 0211.

Rules of Competition and Notes for Participants

1. Applicants should register at the Reception Counter of the Drawing Competition at the entrance of Victoria Park at Hing Fat Street at the following time periods on 6 March 2020 (Friday):

Each participant will be given one permit to enter the showground for the Competition.

2. Participating schools should assign one or two teachers to accompany their students to the showground for the Competition.
3. Participants should complete the drawing within the showground at Victoria Park and avoid causing any obstruction to visitors.
4. Participants must use the drawing paper (292mm × 380mm) provided by the organiser.
5. Participants should bring their own painting paraphernalia and materials such as drawing boards, pencils, painting brushes, watercolor and pastel.
6. Participants must submit their entries to the Reception Counter of the Drawing Competition before the following times on that day:

7. Each participant is only allowed to submit one entry.

Adjudication

Adjudication will be conducted by a judging panel. The decision of the judging panel is final and participants cannot raise any objection.

Handling of the Entries and Intellectual Property

1. All winning entries will be handled by the organiser and will not be returned.
2. The organiser will notify participating schools, in writing, of the arrangement on returning the entries, except winning ones, in May 2020.  The Show Committee will not be liable for any loss or damage caused to the entries by accident, or an act of God.
3. The intellectual property of the entries is owned by the participants.  The organiser, however, has the right to publish, exhibit, print or distribute the winning entries through any media, and to promote and publicize the Hong Kong Flower Show (including activities to be held after the Show) by using the names of the winners.

Prizes

1. Winners will receive trophy or certificate and Book Voucher. The prizes of each Section are as follows:
Champion (One) - One trophy, one certificate and a book voucher of $1,200
1st runner-up (One) - One trophy, one certificate and a book voucher of $800
2nd runner-up (One) - One trophy, one certificate and a book voucher of $600
Highly commended (Ten) - Each will receive one certificate and a book voucher of $400
Certificate of merit (Fifteen) - Each will receive one certificate and a book voucher of $200
2. The prize presentation ceremony will be held during the Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay Hong Kong at 10:30 am on 14 March 2020 (Saturday).
3. Each participant will receive a souvenir pack.

Exhibition of Winning Entries

Winning entries of the champion, 1st and 2nd runner-up and those highly commended will be exhibited at the showground at Victoria Park from 7 March to 15 March 2020.  All winning entries will be put on display at the Kowloon Park Arcade and will be uploaded onto the Hong Kong Flower Show website (www.hkflowershow.hk) in April 2020.

Inclement Weather Arrangement

If Strong Wind Signal No. 3 or above, Black or Red Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory on the day of the competition, the Show Committee of the Hong Kong Flower Show will make announcement of the cancellation of the activity through radio at 6:30 a.m. on that day.
