Eric Chan (Organ)

Born in Hong Kong, Eric Chan Chun-him studied organ at the Royal College of Music in London, where he earned an Artist Diploma, Master of Performance with distinction, and Bachelor of Music with first-class honours. His teachers included David Graham (organ), Andrew Dewar (organ), Kathron Sturrock (piano), and Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin (improvisation). During his studies, he was awarded the Harold Darke Memorial Prize and several scholarships.

Chan has performed widely across England, Scotland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and China, with appearances at major festivals in Prague, Düsseldorf, Madrid, Piacenza, Altenberg, Svendborg, and Stuttgart. He has also performed at leading venues including Westminster Abbey, Sagrada Família, St Paul’s Cathedral London, Auckland Town Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, and Shenzhen Concert Hall. His notable orchestral engagements include performing Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra under Sir Antonio Pappano, in a concert broadcast internationally on Medici TV. In 2014, he performed as organist at the Royal Albert Hall, becoming the first Hong Kong organist to perform there. His work has been featured by Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post and the Italian newspaper Libertà.

Chan first began developing Pipe Organ Through East and West in 2023, a concert programme combining the pipe organ with the suona, a traditional Chinese double-reed wind instrument. The project was formally launched and further developed through its 2024 European tour, supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and received the Best Music Production/Performance Award from the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion, sponsored by the Clare C. & Friends Fellowship. In 2025, the project expanded through six performances abroad, highlighted by a collaboration with the internationally acclaimed suona virtuoso Guo Yazhi at the 20th International Düsseldorf Organ Festival. Their collaboration continued in May 2026 at Auckland Town Hall, where the programme was presented before an audience of 1,200.

Chrysoberyl Chan (Suona)

Chrysoberyl Chan Hoi-yan is a performer of traditional Chinese wind instruments, specialising in the suona. She studied suona with Ko Tit-kwan and Law Hang-leung, and dizi with Cheung Heung-wah. She holds a Master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Enterprise from the University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins.

Chan has performed in festivals and cultural exchange projects across Asia and Europe, and has appeared as a conductor at the International Youth Music Festival in Bratislava, the International Youth Band Music Festival in Edinburgh, and the National China Young Cultural Ambassadors Group Art Performing Festival in Chengdu.

Since 2023, Chan has worked closely with organist Eric Chan on Pipe Organ Through East and West, a concert project integrating the pipe organ with the suona, a traditional Chinese wind instrument. As the project’s Programme Director and suona performer, she plays an active role in its artistic planning, programme development, and international coordination. The project has been presented at organ festivals in Prague, Düsseldorf, Madrid, Piacenza, Altenberg, Svendborg, and Stuttgart, including performances with suona master Guo Yazhi. In 2026, the project continued its development with a well-received performance at Auckland Town Hall.

Free tickets will be available, limited to four per person, on a first-come-first-served basis at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Enquiries Counter between 9 am and 9 pm, or through online registration starting from 14 August (Fri). Children aged 6 and above are welcome. The programme lasts approximately 45 minutes without intermission.

The presenter reserves the right to substitute artists and change programme should unavoidable circumstances make it necessary.
