“Impressive vocal abilities from singing Western and Cantonese operas to impersonating Leslie Cheung. The performers’ strong sense of rhythm and knack for comedy make them an all-rounded act.” – Sek Kei, Hong Kong art critic, Ming Pao, Hong Kong

“Leon Ko’s composition and Chris Shum’s adaptation successfully inject modernity and vitality into the age-old genre of romances. Moreover, the performers’ interpretation and vocal abilities are at a professional standard, giving rise to a solid and mature presentation in terms of both dramatic tension and singing technique.” –Kuh Fei, Hong Kong art critic, Hong Kong Economic Journal

Mixing wit and whims with passion and intrigue. A lively song and dance comedy with a whole new take on sacrificing it all for love.

Yat Po Singers, the first professional a cappella choral theatre company in Hong Kong renowned for developing original theatrical works, will perform their critically acclaimed music theatre production, Our Immortal Cantata, in Taipei. First premièred in Hong Kong as one of the highlights of the New Vision Arts Festival back in 2014, the show incorporates elements of various art forms in an adventurous setting.

Magnificent musical and literary works have been written about men and women who committed suicide in the name of love. The Butterfly Lovers, Romeo and Juliet, Madame Butterfly, Princess Changping and her consort Zhou Shixian, as well as Yu Fa and her lover Sub Yee Siu, are all up against each other in The Greatest Suicide for Love. Through song and dance, cat fights, and, most of all, a divine belief in their sacrifices, these nether folks hold nothing back to claim the winning title and be truly immortalised.

Members of the artistic creative team of Our Immortal Cantata have received numerous accolades for their previous works. Leon Ko, a conceptualiser, composer, and music director rolled into one, is a five-time winner of the Best Original Music and the first recipient of the Best Original Score at the Hong Kong Drama Awards. Meanwhile, Chris Shum’s efforts in writing lyrics for original musicals and stage plays have earned the Best Original Film Song recognition at both the Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards, two Best Original Score won at the Hong Kong Drama Awards, as well as two CASH Golden Sail Music Awards.
