The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) launched the "Community Garden Programme" in February 2004 to set up planting plots at selected LCSD parks and venues across the territory. Under the guidance of qualified instructors, participants can learn how to grow ornamental plants, fruits and vegetables in parks or venues nearby and take home the harvest to share with others.
The scheme is meant to encourage the public to participate in greening activities at community level and to adopt greening activities as part of daily life. It also aims at arousing public awareness in greening and environmental protection through participating in gardening activities.
Community garden programme will be resumed starting from June 2021. Due to the pandemic and the requirement to fulfil the relevant Regulations and Ordinances, no gardening course will be organised for the community garden programme. Participants will be distributed with handout of the course. During the programme period, a resident instructor will attend on every Saturday and Sunday within specific time at the community garden to answer participants’ enquiries on gardening issues. Details of the programme have been uploaded onto the LCSD website (www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/programmes/programmeslist/districtsports/searchrsprog.php). Members of the public may also call 1823 or any District Leisure Services Offices for enquiries.
