Completion and Launch of the Kai Tak Runway Park (Phase I)

Kai Tak Runway Park (Phase I) which was built at the end of the run way of the Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport has now been put into use. The LCSD is responsible for managing the park which is adjacent to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. The park occupies 2.82 Ha of land and is open to the public 24 hours a day.

Adopting a minimalist design, the park features a number of aviation design elements, including the reproduction of two sets of numbers: “13” and 31” which are references to “Runway One Three” / “”Runway Three One” – the names given to the runways by the aviation industry in those days; moreover, the park has retained the original yellow and black checkered pattern and incorporated the “Kai Tak Timeline” that introduces the history of the former airport and plane-shaped benches. Citizens can also view historic photos that commemorate the former airport. The park also has a 270-metre-long waterfront promenade and a large lawn with seating, extensive soft landscape planting and an open plaza in an area equivalent to 20 basketball courts for public use.

Visitors to the park can take the Kowloon green minibus service Route No. 86 towards Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and Kowloon Bay (Telford Gardens) from 7am to 11pm daily. In addition, on Sundays and public holidays, KMB has arranged a special recreational bus service, KMB Route No. 5R to run from Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and Ngau Tau Kok/Kwun Tong MTR Station from 11am to 7pm. Taxi stands and a fee-charging car park for private cars are also available at the terminal for those visiting the park. The above information is for reference only and the transport operator may adjust the relevant arrangements based on actual needs.
