Introduction

The 1st National Youth Games (NYG) is organised by the General Administration of Sport of China and undertaken by the People’s Government of Fujian Province. The NYG is formerly known as the National Intercity Games. With the approval of the General Office of the State Council, the 8th National Intercity Games was officially renamed as the 1st National Youth Games in November 2013 to align with the Youth Olympic Games.

First held in 1988, the National Intercity Games was a national multi-sports event took place every four years, aimed at identifying and training sports talents, and promoting sports development of cities. Unlike the National Games, all of the participating units of the National Intercity Games were cities.


Events

There are a total of 26 competition events in the NYG, namely swimming (swimming and diving), archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing (kayak flatwater), cycling, fencing, football, gymnastics (gymnastics and trampoline), handball, hockey, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing (sailing and windsurfing), shooting, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball (volleyball and beach volleyball), weightlifting, wrestling and wushu (taolu and sanda).
