How many leisure venues under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will be open to the public for holding wedding ceremonies? What are the venues to be included?
The LCSD will open the following six leisure venues to the public for holding wedding ceremonies :

Lei Yue Mun Park in Eastern District (the assembly hall);
Repulse Bay Beach in Southern District (the beach on the west side, the seaside pavilion and the small garden);
Kowloon Tsai Park in Kowloon City (the Bauhinia Garden);
Kowloon Walled City Park in Kowloon City (the Six Arts Terrace and Bamboo Pavilion);
Tai Po Waterfront Park in Tai Po (the amphitheatre and the lawn); and
Sai Kung Waterfront Park in Sai Kung (the platform).
Why were the six venues selected?

It is because these venues provide a beautiful environment and each has its own characteristics for holding wedding ceremonies and shooting photo/video. In Lei Yue Mun Park,  the European-style buildings of the 20th century provide an exotic backdrop for wedding photography while the assembly hall, formerly a church of Lyemun Barracks, is an ideal wedding venue. Repulse Bay, one of the most popular beaches in Hong Kong, is characterised by its delightful scenery. The Bauhinia Garden in Kowloon Tsai Park, planted with over 140 Bauhinia trees, is a most picturesque place. Kowloon Walled City Park, with its landscaped features of the gardens of southern China, is the best choice for wedding couples who prefer the traditional type of Chinese wedding ceremonies. Tai Po Waterfront Park presents a panoramic view of the Tolo Harbour, with the Lookout Tower serving as a distinctive shooting location in the Park. Sai Kung is a famous tourist and scenic spot. The platform of Sai Kung Waterfront Park, situated at the seaside of Sai Kung and characterised by its fine sea views, offers an ideal venue for holding wedding ceremonies.

Why were only six instead of all leisure venues selected to be open to the public for holding wedding ceremonies?
The LCSD has selected six leisure venues only for the time being with a view to observing the popularity of these leisure venues for being used as wedding venues. If the response is favourable and members of the public have shown interest in using other leisure venues, the LCSD will consider opening other venues.
For holding wedding ceremonies, what are the advantages of the LCSD leisure venues over other traditional venues?

The LCSD leisure venues can provide more spacious areas for the public to hold wedding ceremonies. The six designated areas are 400 to 3 750 square metres in size. Each of the venues provides a beautiful environment for couples to make decorations flexibly and do photo/video shoots.

Length of Time
Members of the public can have a longer session (4 hours) to hold wedding ceremonies at the LCSD leisure venues. If required, the time for using the venue can be extended to tie in with the wedding procedures.

Hire Charges
The hire service is reasonably charged.
Please refer to the hire charges of the LCSD webpage on Booking of Leisure Venues for the Holding Wedding Ceremonies.

What are the booking procedures for holding wedding ceremonies at leisure venues of the LCSD?

Either the bride-to-be or the groom-to-be may submit the application twelve calendar months prior to the intended wedding day at the earliest or at least two calendar months prior to the intended wedding day. For instance, venue - booking application should reach the office concerned from 1 to 31 March 2007 if the wedding ceremony is to be held in April 2008. Application forms can be downloaded from the LCSD webpage and they are also available at District Leisure Services Offices (DLSOs) and Lei Yue Mun Park. Completed application forms should be submitted in person, by post or by fax to the DLSO or the Lei Yue Mun Park  to which the venue pertains.

The day on which the application reaches the respective DLSO or the Lei Yue Mun Park will be deemed as the day on which the application is received. If more than one application have been received for the same venue and session, allocation of the venue will be determined by an open ballot which will be held on the 10th day or the following working day of each month. The applicants will be notified of the balloting result in writing by the office concerned within seven working days. The successful applicants should pay the fees within seven working days after the notification is issued. The applicants may also apply for the unbooked venues or sessions within the immediate twelve months in the respective district as from the last working day of each month at the DLSO concerned.

What is the reason for not providing on-line booking service?

For the sake of fairness, if there is more than one application for the same venue and session, allocation of the venue will be determined by ballot. Therefore, applicants must return the completed application forms to the DLSO or Lei Yue Mun Park to which the venue pertains either in person, by post or by fax so that the ballot can proceed.

Can the booking be made through a wedding agency?

Apart from monopoly, a wedding agency may also seek personal gains by raising the hire charges in the course of transferring the right to use the booked venue to others. To eliminate these possibilities, the LCSD will only accept applications from the bride-to-be or the groom-to-be.

Can a confirmed booking be altered?

Under normal circumstances, an application for alteration of the session and/or date in respect of a previously confirmed booking will be treated as cancellation of the booking. Any fees / charges paid will be forfeited. However, in the event that a tropical cyclone warning signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm signal is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory or the management is required to close the venue for safety and/or operational reasons and/or the venue is not suitable for holding the wedding ceremony due to inclement weather, the hirers can apply for a refund or alteration of the date and/or session previously booked.

Will the LCSD assist hirers to decorate the wedding venue or provide supporting facilities?

To enable the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be to decorate the wedding venues flexibly according to their own wish, the LCSD will only provide the venue and the basic facilities (such as electricity supply).

Is the wedding couple allowed to book two LCSD wedding venues on the wedding day so that one wedding venue is for holding wedding ceremony and the other for banquet purpose?

No. The LCSD wedding venues are provided for the wedding couples to hold wedding ceremonies which must be hosted by a civil celebrant of marriages. As such, each couple should book one wedding venue to hold the wedding ceremony on their wedding day.
