An Excerpt of Tryst in the Firewood Shed from Havoc at Guang Chang Long

Liao Xiaoqiao, born into a grassroots family, loses her parents during their flight from a disaster.  As an orphan, Liao has no choice but to sell herself to a brothel.  Zhao Huai’an, a wealthy playboy, encounters Liao at the brothel and wins her heart with his sweet talk.  Liao is fooled into believing that she can escape from prostitution by marrying Zhao, and so entrusts him with all her savings in the hope of spending the rest of her life with him.  However, Zhao takes the money and is never seen again.  Overwhelmed by sorrow and anger, Liao falls seriously ill and eventually hangs herself at Guang Chang Long.

Liu Junxian, a rouge pedlar who is righteous and always ready to help others, comes across Liao’s spirit at Guang Chang Long.  While he is struck with terror at first, he becomes indignant on hearing Liao’s story.  Moved by her sincerity, he takes her spirit to Yangzhou to seek vengeance against Zhao.
