Music Office

The Music Office promotes knowledge and appreciation of music in the community, especially among young people. During the year, it ran an Instrumental Music Training Scheme for 4 697 trainees, along with 19 youth orchestras, bands and choirs with 1 387 members. It also organised 243 short-term music interest courses for 2 507 participants, and another 397 music-related activities which together attracted around 162 000 people. These included a music camp, several youth music events, and a variety of educational programmes for students and the community.

As part of of the Music Office’s cultural exchange programme, in August 2013, the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band of the Music Office participated in the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival in Korea. The office also organised exchange activities in Hong Kong for youth music groups from Tianjin, Taipei and Singapore.

The new Kwun Tong Music Centre in the Lam Tin Complex was officially opened in September 2013. Of all the music centres under the Music Office, this one has the largest rehearsal hall and its practice rooms are soundproofed, offering an ideal music learning and practice environment for trainees and orchestra members.
