Music Office

The Music Office promotes knowledge and appreciation of music in the community, especially among young people. The office provides instrumental and ensemble training and organises a variety of activities to promote music appreciation among public.

Outstanding young members of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, all trained by the Music Office, demonstrate their talents at an annual concert.

The services and activities during the year included: an Instrumental Music Training Scheme for 4 580 trainees; 18 youth orchestras, bands and choirs with 1 342 members; 230 short-term music interest courses for 2 399 participants; and 361 other music activities which attracted about 160 000 people. The latter included a music camp, youth music events, and a variety of educational programmes for students and the community.

The Hong Kong Youth Music Camp is a major annual summer youth activity organised by the Music Office.

The office also arranged several cultural exchange events during the year. The Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra toured Taiwan for the first time and engaged in activities with young musicians in Taipei and Taichung and performed at the 2011 Contemporary Chinese Orchestra Festival in Changhua. In addition, the office organised exchange activities in Hong Kong for youth music groups from Beijing and Tianjin.

Top
