Remembrance of the Avant-garde: Archival Camera Collection Exhibition - Seminars

The exhibition not only offers a nostalgic glimpse of film technology in the olden days to young audiences of the mobile era, during which HKFA has also organized a series of seminars, inviting experimental film artists of the 70s, and award-winning cinematographers to share with our audience their valuable experiences in film and cinematography.

Seminar 1

<Joy and Sorrow of the Great Cinematographer: Arthur Wong>

Conducted in Cantonese, Free admission

HKFA has invited Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Society of Cinematographers, 9-time awardee of Hong Kong Film Awards Best Cinematographer Mr. Arthur Wong to be our speaker. Arthur has been a film cinematographer since 1970s, and has worked with numerous famous Hong Kong directors such John Woo, Ann Hui, and Peter Chan, just to name a few. He has shot over hundred films and the list is still growing. Arthur will share with our audience some of his most memorable experiences in film, in cinematography, and in collaboration with the many film directors.

<Good Old Days with the Experimental Film Buffs>

Speaker: Alex Cheung Kwok Ming, Chan Tin-shing

Conducted in Cantonese, Free admission

For the second seminar, HKFA has invited 2 pioneering 8mm filmmaker in the 70s as speakers; they are Alex Cheung Kwok Ming, Chan Tin-shing. Passionate towards photography, Alex made numerous independent shorts in early 1970s, then entered the film and TV industry and was awarded Golden Horse Best Director by Man on the Brink in 1982. On the other hand, Chan Tin-shing was not only an independent filmmaker in the 70s, but also a keen collector of moving cameras, projectors, editing machines etc.

Alex and Chan will share with audience the good old days of their independent film making. The seminar will especially be held at Exhibition Hall of HKFA, in order to encourage interaction between speakers and audience. Film buffs must not miss the chance!
