Having sung a string of hit songs, Carrie Ku Mei finally stars in The Lark, her first star vehicle upon joining the Shaw Brothers. This bona fide box-office hit cemented Ku's illustrious career as both a singer and actress. Tailored for Ku, the film was titled The Lark, the respectful nickname that she earned. Ku's character, Shi Hsiaoyun, has become famous throughout Hong Kong and Southeast Asia for her singing. The plot of Hsiaoyun attracting unwarranted scandal from the media upon her return from Bangkok actually mirrored Ku's personal experiences. In the film, Ku sings many songs including 'Love without end', 'Maiden of Alishan', 'River of Tears', 'The Lark', all of which remain timeless classics. Many top singers also make cameos in the film including Poon Sow-keng, the 'Queen of Alto', performing her signature song 'Lover's Tears'. Mona Fong, famous for singing English songs, also contributes with her performance of 'The Wedding', adapted from the song 'La novia', sung in both English and Chinese.
