Merry-Go-Movies: Star Kids of HK Cinema in the 50s and 60s ② Exhibition

Date:6/5 – 28/8/2016
Venue:1/F Foyer, Hong Kong Film Archive

In the summer of 2013, visitors to the Hong Kong Film Archive experienced childhood nostalgia at its cinematic finest with Merry-Go-Movies: Star Kids of HK Cinema in the 50s and 60s. Showcasing a selection of 30 titles featuring 12 beloved child stars of yesteryear, the retrospective's opening was graced with the presence by Fung Bo-bo, Shek Sau (aka Bill Chan), Michael Lai and their contemporaries reflecting on their early fame, which was met with a warm reception and sparked a renaissance of interest in these child prodigies.

Merry-Go-Movies returns in 2016 summer, featuring a new crop of child acting geniuses in the 1950s and 60s. Beginning from May 2016, retrospective screenings under four themes – ‘From Child Stars to Veteran Actors', ‘Child Stars Dearly Remembered', ‘The Offspring of Famed Directors' and ‘Poorly Treated Kids' – will be held respectively throughout the summer months, making it a ride to remember and savour again and for a long time.
