District Youth Chinese Orchestras of the Music Office

 

The Music Office currently runs three District Youth Chinese Orchestras: Island Youth Chinese Orchestra (IYCO), Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra (KYCO) and New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra (NTYCO). The orchestras offer ensemble training for the young Chinese instrumental players with intermediate standard or above. With members aged below 25, recruitment of the orchestras is held through open audition in April every year.

 

Besides regular training and performing on regular Joint Concerts in concert venues, the orchestras also actively participate in many local activities and invited performances to share the joy of Chinese music with the community, for examples, United Buddy Bears Exhibition, the annual Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo and Hong Kong Flower Show in Victoria Park, Youth Music Marathon in Shatin Town Hall, Music for the Millions Music Carnival outside Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Sky in Water joint concert of large-scale Chinese-Western orchestras in Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra

 

Established in 2006, Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra (MOJCO) is trained and managed by the Music Office. With members aged below 16, recruitment of the MOJCO is held through open audition in April every year.

 

The orchestra aims to nurture the talents of the potential young Chinese instrumental players and enhance their cooperation and harmoniousness in ensemble playing. The MOJCO frequently appears in the community to deliver a diverse repertoire of Chinese orchestral music in concerts held by the Music Office and other local community organisations.

Music Office Children’s Chinese Orchestra

 

Established in 2002, Music Office Children’s Chinese Orchestra (MOCCO) is trained and managed by the Music Office. With members aged below 14, recruitment of the MOCCO is held through open audition in April every year.

 

The orchestra aims to provide fundamental ensemble training for children learning Chinese musical instrument at elementary level, and prepare them for higher level ensemble playing in the future. The MOCCO also frequently appears in the community sharing their music with the audiences.
