The Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra (HKYCO) will present its annual concert “The Prosperous Times”, with guest performance by the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra, under the baton of Music Office Instructor Bosco Kwok Kin-ming and Guest Conductor Rupert Woo Pak-tuen. The concert programme includes the lively 3rd movement "A Happy Gathering" from Suite Impressions of Hainan that will evoke tropical charm, Dizi Principal of the HKYCO, Luk Tsun-ki will be the soloist of the majestic dizi concerto The Song of Flight, followed by the joyful Lantern Festival and exuberant Eager to Fly. The two orchestras will join forces to present The Sisters' Islands, a piece inspired by mythological legend, and the concert will culminate in the world premiere of Xu Xinchi's Symphony No. 1 "The Prosperous Times", commissioned by the Music Office, leading the audience on a journey through the resplendent beauty of Chinese culture.

The concert is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has all along promoted Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public learn more about broad and profound Chinese culture. |

Bosco Kwok Kin-ming (Conductor)

Bosco Kwok Kin-ming is currently Senior Music Officer of the Chinese Music Section of the Music Office and conductor of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra (HKYCO) and the Music Office Instructors’ Chinese Orchestra.
Kwok obtained the Master of Music degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in Chinese orchestra conducting, under the tutelage of renowned conductor Professor Yan Huichang. Kwok was the second runner-up and awarded “Outstanding Young Conductor of Hong Kong” at the 1st Hong Kong International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music in 2011. He has also received guidance from many other distinguished conductors, including Maestros Xia Feiyun, Chen Chengxiong, Ye Cong, Zhang Guoyong, Wang Fujian, and Yip Wing-sie. As a conductor, Kwok has collaborated with many renowned orchestras, including Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Jilin Chinese Orchestra, Macao Chinese Orchestra, Wuxi Chinese Orchestra, Feiyun Chinese Orchestra and the Chinese Orchestra of the HKAPA.
In 2016, Kwok led the HKYCO to tour in Shanghai and Shenyang, China where the Orchestra jointly performed with the Shenyang Conservatory of Music Chinese Orchestra. In 2018, under his baton, the HKYCO presented a joint concert titled TOGETHER with Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra in the Lion City. . In 2023, he led the HKYCO to Xi’an for music exchange, and conducted an exchange concert jointly presented by the HKYCO and the Xi’an Conservatory of Music Chinese Orchestra. |

Rupert Woo Pak-tuen (Guest Conductor)

Rupert Woo Pak-tuen is currently Associate Conductor of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) and Resident Conductor of the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra. Woo obtained the Bachelor of Music (Hons) in banhu performance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2008, and the Master of Music degree in banhu and gaohu performance from HKAPA in 2010. In 2012, Woo was the first graduate of the Master of Music degree in Conducting programmme of the HKAPA. He was the second prize winner at the 2nd International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music and also awarded the “Outstanding Young Conductor in Hong Kong Award” and the “Audience Award for the Most Popular Conductor”.
Previously, Woo served as a Guest Instructor in Conducting at the Department of Traditional Chinese Musical Instruments of the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Resident Conductor of the Conservatory’s Chinese Orchestra, and Instructor on its postgraduate programme. He guest-conducted the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the Macao Chinese Orchestra, the Henan National Music Orchestra, the Academy Chinese Orchestra and the Academy Symphony Orchestra of HKAPA, Fanyin Chamber Orchestra of the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble etc. In 2018, Woo became the Assistant Conductor (Education and Outreach) of HKCO through open recruitment, responsible for the conducting of the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra, which is under the management of the HKCO; he has planned and conducted the “Preservation and Perpetuation of the Classics” concerts for years. Woo conducted various HKCO concerts, including “Trail of the Blue Dragon” Community Concert in 2022, the Tour in Australia, “School Culture Day” concert and “Our Cantopop” concert in 2023, etc. |

Luk Tsun-ki (Dizi)

Luk Tsun-ki currently holds the positions of Woodwinds and Percussion Section Principal of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Chinese Orchestra, Principal Dizi of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, and Conductor of the Yao Yueh Youth Chinese Orchestra.
Born in Hong Kong, Luk began his musical journey at the age of eight, studying Dizi under the tutelage of Chan King-tsun and Chinese percussion with Leung Ching-kit. He was later admitted to the School of Music (Chinese Music) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), where he studied Dizi with the renowned virtuoso Sun Yongzhi and Chinese percussion with the celebrated performer Yim Hok-man, completing his Bachelor of Music degree with a double major in 2024. In the same year, he was awarded a scholarship by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, receiving full sponsorship to pursue his Master of Music degree at the HKAPA, where he is currently a second-year postgraduate student. Luk has performed with various artistic groups, including the Refiner Drums, Tsun Lok Dizi Ensemble Group, Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, and the HKAPA Chinese Orchestra, with performances taking him to Singapore, India, Chinese Mainland, etc. |

The Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra was set up by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) with the purpose of inheriting the culture of Chinese music. The Orchestra currently consists of over 80 members aged between 10 and 26. The Orchestra’s incumbent conductor is Rupert Woo Pak-tuen, the Associate Conductor of HKCO, also the winner of the “Outstanding Young Conductor of Hong Kong Award” of the “Second International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music 2014”.
Members of the Orchestra actively participate in performances and exchanges both in Hong Kong and overseas. Local performances include performances at the Hong Kong International Youth Chinese Music Festival in 2018, “Let’s Fun@HKCC” commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the “Haw Par Jolly Music Day” in 2019, the annual “Preservation and Perpetuation of the Classics” concerts since 2021, “Kwai Tsing District Chinese Orchestra Concert in Celebration of the 73rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China”, the “Flying Dragons and Leaping Tigers to celebrate the Hong Kong SAR’s 25th Anniversary” concert in 2022, participating in “95 Years of Public Service Broadcasting – Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award Presentation Concert” in 2023, Twilight Concerts in Hong Kong Cultural Centre Foyer, and performances in the “Opening Ceremony cum Reception of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo”, “HKEX 24th Anniversary Celebrations” and “HKIA Arts & Culture Festival” in 2024, and invited performances at the Spring Receptions of The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2024 and 2025. Overseas performances include exchanges and tours in “Macao International Youth Music Week” in 2018, as well as the Greater Bay Area in 2019, where the Orchestra visited Macao, Shenzhen and Panyu and exchanged their music experiences with the local students.
