Co-creation and Performance

To promote the development of Arts Tech, the Music Office has collaborated with the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) to present the “Innovative Music Making: MO x e-Orch” since 2022-23 school year. This music training programme is curated by Dr. Leung Chi-hin, Assistant Professor of the EdUHK and co-taught by the professional e-Orch instructors and trainee-teachers from the EdUHK. Students will form e-Orch (digital music orchestras), learn and create music together using tablets. After the training, the e-Orch members will showcase their collaborative e-Orch compositions. Some of the e-Orch will jointly perform with the instrumental ensembles and have the world premiere of local composers’ original works in the showcase concert.

Programme Highlights

Course (1): e-Orch Music Making Course

2 primary schools / secondary schools

Target Participants:

Primary 4-6 / Secondary 1-3, no musical background is needed

  • Computer with internet access
  • Projector and screen
  • Wireless microphone with cover
  • PA System with 3.5mm jack input
  • 1-meter 3.5mm aux audio cable
  • iPad (with iPadOS 16 or later)
  • Portable speaker (compatible with 3.5mm jack input) 
  • 30cm 3.5mm aux audio cable
  • Music stand (non-foldable, for placing iPad and portable speaker)

 

Course (2): e-Orch Training and Co-creative Course

No. of Participating Schools:

2 primary schools / secondary schools

Target Participants:

Primary 4-6 / Secondary 1-3, participants should have attained Grade 4 Practical Exam of ABRSM or Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing) of any western and Chinese instruments; or have a minimum of 4 years study on that instrument; or 2-3 years of electronic ensemble experience; or equivalent.

If some of the participating students do not meet the music qualification criteria, schools may indicate in the application form for Music Office and EdUHK’s consideration.

Form an e-Orch and learn improvisation skills, different musical instruments, timbres and styles through progressive ensemble performance exercises using tablets. 

 

Collaborative Creation

Learn how to apply various musical elements, develop creativity and imagination, and enjoy the joy of collaborative creation.

* The Music Office will notify the successful schools of the schedule and arrangement of the programme. The Music Office reserves the right to change the programme and its relevant arrangements.

# Schools shall arrange for their own transportation to and from the Venue.

 

Awards

  • Certificate of Attendance – Participating e-Orch members who completed the course
  • Original e-Orch Composition Award – The most outstanding original e-Orch composition, nominated by the professional adjudication panel
  • Outstanding e-Orch Student Award – The most outstanding e-Orch member, nominated by the e-Orch instructors and the school music teachers

Application

Deadline: 13 June 2025 (Fri)

  1. Complete the application form and submit via email (moarttech@lcsd.gov.hk) or fax (3104 1352).
  2. The Music Office will acknowledge the schools’ application by e-mail. If any school does not receive the Acknowledgement of Application by 17 June (Tue), please call the Music Office before 5pm on this day.

 

Selection Criteria

If the programme is oversubscribed, selection will be made by ballot. Only selected schools will be invited to attend the Zoom interview on 30 June or 2 July. The schools should provide a brief overview of the school facilities and other required information during the interview. Schools will be notified of the application results and the arrangement of the programme before 18 July (Fri).

 

Programme Fee

Course (1) e-Orch Music Making Course: $6,000/ school
Course (2) e-Orch Training and Co-creative Course: $10,000/ school

Successful schools are required to pay the programme fee by 30 September (Tue) according to the payment details stated on the successful notification. All fees paid are non-refundable.

 

Points to note

  1. The Music Office shall have the absolute discretion to capture, make, take and use any photographs, sound recordings or films of the programme and to retain the right to edit, modify, publish and use any intellectual creation (including original works, arranged works, moving images or still images) made during the course of programmme for any lawful purposes, including but not limited to archive, advertising and promotion of the programme.
  2. The Music Office reserves the right to change the arrangement of trainings, rehearsals or concert due to contingency (e.g. inclement weather or epidemic situation).
  3. Should there be disputes, the Music Office reserves the right of the final decision.
