Blue Magpie

Urocissa erythrorhyncha

Blue Magpie Characteristics:
About 65 cm long. Blue upperparts, black head, red bill and very long tail. It makes various noisy calls and whistles.


Distribution:
Resident. Quite common and widespread, particularly in Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island.

Habits:
Mostly seen in small parties. Often on the ground. Found in areas with thick scrub cover. Breeding season from April to July. The nest is a light structure placed in a tree, usually about 7 metres off the ground.
