City Dress Up : Seats • Together

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department
Organised by the Art Promotion Office

Art Promotion Office has organised the public art project "City Dress Up : Seats.Together". With the assistance of 4 guest curatorial teams, Billy Tam, Joshua Lau, Brian Lee and Denise Chan, together with Yip Chun-hang, 20 teams of artists, designers and architects have created 20 sets of public artworks in the form of aesthetically appealing and functional furniture. The artworks are specifically made to echo with the environment and the characteristics of the respective locations in 18 districts, which aim to add vitality to the cityscape of Hong Kong. These sets of artistic furniture have been installed at the open space of 20 Leisure and Cultural Services Department venues, such as parks, waterfronts, leisure areas and playgrounds and will be displayed till July 2020 for a period of 3 years.

A series of creative activities have been co-organised by the Art Promotion Office, the artist groups, Hulu Culture , Hong Kong Public Space Initiative and KACAMA SOCIAL to further extend the significance of these public artworks, and to foster interactions among local communities from different backgrounds. Past activities include soundwalks, cultural backyard markets, wood installation workshop, family planting sessions, street music performances, expressive arts therapy workshops, co-creation of light art installation with waste-recycling elements, and many more highlights. While offering a creative learning experience, each programme has been designed to pair with its corresponding artistic furniture, and to bring out the uniqueness of the local district. The fringe activities have engaged the general public and participants from local communities, where they have enjoyed the games, workshops and performances regardless of age, ethnicity and ability, showing us that public spaces in Hong Kong can be full of vitality. More activities will continue to be held during the display period of the artistic furniture, please stay tuned!
