Director Yueh’s final film for Shaw Brothers. Grandma Ba of the Ba Village has always been a well-respected village chief. However, her beloved grandson Ba Jie has teamed up with thieves from Village of Tigers on a robbery and is injured by a warrior named Luo Hongxun (Elliot Yueh Hua). When Jie is killed, Hongxun goes on a hunt for Jie’s killer with Jie’s sister (Shu Peipei). Even though the two eliminates the thieves, Hongxun and all of Ba Village end up paying the price. Yueh’s film appears to be a martial arts film that followed the trends of the time, but it also featured subversive elements; Ba Village is a matriarchal society ruled by Grandma Ba and the female elders. Harsh punishments also go to anyone who goes against the women of the village as Jie does. Yueh and co-director Wang Ping also injects a surprising amount of emotional elements in between the powerful action scenes, lending this typical martial arts film a fresh twist.
