Refusing to follow the footsteps of her three sisters who all married to their tenants, Chen Chiyu (Shu Peipei) deliberately gave cold shoulders to the new tenant Woo Shaochieh, a handsome and friendly medical student. On the other hand, Chen’s aunt tried to copy the same trick and leased a room to Woo’s classmate Jao Yennung, who happened to be quite an annoying match to her daughter. Clearly this movie reminded us Yueh’s previous work A Love Story , but the tone was  hanged into a coloured, youthful fantasy along with an unrealistically spacious set in Shaw Brothers Studio. Yueh clearly and masterfully incorporated different storylines with a balance of romance and comedy. His visual aesthetics was perfectly realised in the recreated cityscape. All in all, Yueh’s most important message was still the hope on humanity. At the end when music played, family was still there to sooth everyone’s soul in spite of the change of time.
