While Li Hanhsiang and his crew brought about a current of Huangmei Diao film, Yueh, as one of Shaws’ core directors, had also churned out a number of excellent Huangmei Diao films. Madam White Snake was the first film made after  Shaw moved its Studio to Clear Water Bay and also Yueh Feng’s debut in Cinemascope, leading the box office of the year. Yueh paid much attention of the classical scenes in the legend. By the use of sets, cinematography and mise-en-sc ne, not only the beauty and tranquility of the lake districts are conveyed on the screen, but also the strange atmosphere of the romantic love between a human and a snake spirit. It was made at a time that marked the blooming of a golden age of mandarin films and demonstrates the professionalism of studio production.
