School teacher Tin (Cheung Ying) falls instantly in love with Kim (Pak Yin) and soon get married. Before long Tin finds it hard to cope with the financial pressures in life but is too ashamed to tell his wife the truth. In the hands of Cheung and Pak, the alltime favourite screen couple, the conflicts and tensions faced by the newly-weds are revealed and articulated effortlessly. However, as the couple’s best Bohemian friend, Cheung Wood-yau also gave a fresh and unexpected performance. Ng Wui’s direction and Cheng Kang’s screenplay provide the film a coherent narrative with varied tempos, beginning with a light, cheerful and romantic scenario but gradually develop into a dramatic ending which speaks directly to the lives and social conditions of the time. The same personal touch will be seen again in Story of Father and Son, the film the duo made in the following year.
