Notes to Participants of specific activities

Participants should read thoroughly the respective notes below for participation in recreation and sports programmes. For enquires, please contact the organising District Leisures Services Offices.

Track Cycling Training Course Participants should put on comfortable, tight-fitting sportswear (e.g. cycling apparel) and trainers (no basketball shoes or sandals), and bring their own drinks. They must also wear the helmets provided at the Hong Kong Velodrome.
BMX Training Course / Fun Day
  1. Participants should be able to manage two-wheeled bikes.
  2. Participants must wear casual sportswear (which should be tight instead of baggy clothing) and trainers (no bike shoes, basketball shoes or sandals). They must also wear the helmets and protective gears provided at the Hong Kong Jockey Club International BMX Park (BMX Park).
  3. In unstable weather conditions, the BMX Park reserves the right to cancel the activity for safety’s sake.
Badminton / Table Tennis / Tennis / Mini-tennis / Squash Training Course Participants attending ball games training courses (except the mini-tennis course) should bring along their own rackets, and the frame of the squash racket should be covered with white adhesive tape. For safety’s sake, participants of squash training course are advised to wear goggles during the class. Participants should wear proper sportswear and clean non-marking rubber-outsole sports shoes.
Volleyball / Basketball / Indoor Gateball / Wushu Training Course Participants should wear proper sportswear and clean non-marking rubber-outsole sports shoes.
Lawn bowls / Indoor Short Mat Bowling Training Course Participants should wear proper sportswear as well as flat sports shoes without grooves.
Modern Dance / Jazz / Social Dance / Chinese Dance / Oriental Dance / Children Dance / Western Folk Dance / Gymnastics for All Training Course Participants should wear proper sportswear and dancing shoes or acrobatic shoes.
Aerobic Dance Training Course Participants should bring along their own large towels, clean sports shoes and wear proper sportswear.
Fitness (Multi-gym) Training Course
  1. Participants who have attained an attendance rate of 80% will be registered as a user of LCSD Fitness Rooms and may hire the fitness rooms provided by the LCSD for self-practice.
  2. Participants should attend the class on time. Those who are late for 15 minutes or more will be considered absent for that session.
  3. Participants are required to put on clean sports shoes and proper sportswear.
Briefing on Proper Ways to Use Fitness Equipment
  1. The briefing lasts three hours. It will cover both theory and practice, and will include a written assessment. Those who attend the briefing and pass the assessment may register as a User of LCSD Fitness Rooms for hire of fitness facilities.
  2. Participants should attend the briefing on time. If they are late for ten minutes or above, their places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis to other persons waiting in the venue.
  3. If there are unfilled places after the commencement of the briefing for less than 30 minutes, latecomers can still attend the briefing.
  4. Due to the tight schedule of the briefing, latecomers will not be allowed to enter the venue after the commencement of the briefing for over 30 minutes.
  5. Participants are required to put on clean sports shoes and proper sportswear.
Yoga Training Course Participants should bring along their own large towels and warm clothing.
Tai Chi Sword Training Course Participants should bring along their own tai chi swords.
Judo Training Course Participants should bring along their own judo gowns.
Roller-skating Training Course Participants should bring along their own roller-skates.
Hiking Participant should wear proper sportswear, long-sleeved T-shirt, trousers and hiking shoes. Participants should bring along enough drinks and food.
Orienteering Training Course Participants should wear proper sportswear and bring along their own compasses, whistles, drinks and food.
Horse-riding Fun Day
  1. Participants should weigh below 68kg (150 lb).
  2. Participants are advised not to wear any accessories, e.g. earrings, rings and necklaces when riding.
  3. Participants should wear shirts with sleeves, loose-fitting pants, leather shoes/boots with heels, and helmets provided by the riding schools.
  4. In unstable weather conditions, the riding schools reserve the right to cancel their activities for safety’s sake.
Golf Training Course Participants should wear proper sportswear and sports shoes without steel spikes.
Baseball Training Course Participants should wear sleeved sports attire, trousers and sports shoes. All equipment for the training course is provided by the Department.
Canoeing / Sailing / Windsurfing Training Course
(Please refer to "Guide for Water Sports Centres’ Participant")
  1. Participants are required to sign a declaration stating that they are able to swim with clothes on for at least 50 metres / proficient in swimming before they may participate in water sports training courses. Participants should wear suitable clothing and gear, such as swimming suits, swimming trunks, spectacle bands, sun caps, well-fitting long-sleeved outer clothing which are light and breathable, and heel-toe-covered rubber shoes suitable for water sports (no slippers or sandals), and lifejackets or buoyancy aids provided by the centres.
  2. Participants aged below 18 should, on the activity day, submit to the centre staff a declaration duly completed and signed by their parent/guardian or an authorised person. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to take part in the water sports activities of that day.
  3. Participants should bring along their own food and drinks.
  4. Wetsuits are available at all LCSD water sports centres.
  5. Participants should bring along their activity log books and proof of recognised qualifications (if necessary) for verification by centre staff / instructors on the activity day. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to take part in the water sports activities of that day.
  6. If the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal, Strong Monsoon Signal, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 or Thunderstorm Warning is in force, participants of scheduled programmes (except sea trips) are required to report to the centres. The centre staff will decide whether the water sports activities of the day should be held in the light of the prevailing weather conditions.
Hydro-fitness / Life-Saving Training Course
  1. Participants should bring along their payment receipts and identity documents and arrive at the entrance of the swimming pool 15 minutes before the commencement of the class.
  2. If payment receipt is lost, participants should apply to the District Leisure Services Office organising the course for a replacement.
  3. Participants are only allowed to carry out activities within the area and at the times designated by the Department. Participants should not go into the water without instructor’s permission.
  4. Participants should wear swimming caps provided by the Department for safety and identification purpose. The swimming caps should be kept by the participants until the end of the course. In case any participant forgets to bring the swimming cap, the instructor has the right to reject the participant from entering the water.
  5. Participants should use the training equipment provided by the Department and return all the equipment to the instructor after class.
  6. Participants should follow the instructors’ instruction and should not attend class when too hungry or too full. Should participants feel unwell during the class, they should inform the instructor at once to avoid accidents.
  7. If the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal, the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or below, the Thunderstorm Warning is in force, or if there is a thunderstorm, and yet the swimming pool remains open, the training course will take place as usual. However, participants should follow the instructors’ instructions and should not go into the water without approval.
  8. Life-Saving Training Course: Only participants who have passed the swimming test held in the first lesson are allowed to attend these courses 【For Life Saving Training Course (Bronze Medallion), swim 200 metres by any swimming strokes (except backstroke) within 5 minutes and tread water for 3 minutes. For Life-Saving Training Course (Award of Merit Syllabus), participants should be a holder of a valid Bronze Medallion】. Those who have failed in the swimming test should return the original payment receipt to the organising district office for arranging partial refund (entrance fees deducted). Participants absent from the swimming test are regarded as waiving their rights and all fees paid are not refundable.
  9. After class, participants should get change as quickly as possible and leave the pool complex. Participants are not allowed to stay within the pool area.
Progressive Swimming Scheme
  1. Participants should not be accepted to change class and the right of participation is not transferable.
  2. Participants should bring along their receipts and original copy of identity documents used for enrolment for verification by the instructor/official when attending class : Hong Kong residents should produce their Hong Kong Identity Cards (Birth Certificates / Documents of Identity for Visa Purposes / HKSAR Re-entry Permit / One-way Permit also acceptable for children aged below 11).  Children aged 14 or below may produce a copy of their identity documents.  The original of a valid photograph-bearing student handbook / card should also be produced if their identity documents supplied do not bear a photograph. Non-Hong Kong residents should produce their valid travel documents (such as Passports, Exit-Entry Permits for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao).  Participants should keep their receipts until the end of the training course/programme.
  3. The instructor and staff of this office have the right to reject anyone who fails to observe the instructions from attending the course.  Fees paid are not refundable.
  4. If the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal, the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or below, the Thunderstorm Warning is issued, or if there is a thunderstorm, and yet the swimming pool remains open, the swimming course will take place as usual.  However, participants should follow the instructor’s instructions and should not go into the water without approval.
  5. In case the Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement (an advance notice to the public issued by the Hong Kong Observatory when the tropical cyclone warning signal No. 8 is expected within two hours) is issued when the activities are proceeding, the activities will be proceeded as scheduled.  In case the Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement is issued before the start of the activities, the activities will be cancelled.
  6. In case the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued when the activities are proceeding, outdoor swimming courses will be cancelled while indoor swimming courses will be proceeded as scheduled.
  7. All classes will be cancelled if the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above or the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued two hours before class commences (Classes organised by Islands District Leisure Services Office will be cancelled three hours before classes commence).
  8. All classes will be held as scheduled if the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is cancelled two hours before the commencement of the classes and the venue condition permits (Classes organised by Islands District Leisure Services Office will be held as scheduled three hours after the cancellation of signals).  Participants should consider the actual weather and traffic condition when deciding whether or not to attend the class.
  9. Participants should bring along the payment receipt and arrive at the entrance of the swimming pool 15 minutes before the commencement of the class.  Should a participant fail to produce the payment receipt, he/she is required to provide proof of identity.  Upon verification of the participant’s identity document, the official will issue a temporary admission card to the participant.  The temporary admission card is for effective managing the participant’s in and out of the venue.  The temporary admission card will become invalid upon the participant leaving the venue.
  10. If the payment receipt is lost, participants should apply to the District Leisure Services Office (DLSO) organising the course for a replacement.
  11. Participants are only allowed to carry out activities within the area and at the times designated by this office.  Participants should not go into the water without instructor’s permission.
  12. Participants should wear swimming caps provided by this office for safety and identification purposes.  The swimming caps should be kept by the participants until the end of the course.  In case any participant forgets to bring the swimming cap, the instructor has the right to reject the participant from entering the water.
  13. Participants should use the training equipment provided by this office and return all the equipment to the instructor after class.
  14. Participants are allowed to retain the swimming caps for use after finishing the course.  In order to avoid being mistaken for swimming class participants, they should reverse the swimming caps when using them at LCSD swimming pools.
  15. Participants should be aware of their health condition and avoid taking the class when feeling unwell or symptoms of infectious diseases like fever, respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, running nose, sore throat), conjunctivitis, skin rash, skin damage, etc.
  16. For the sake of safety, instructors may reject anyone whose health condition is considered unsuitable for participation and those who have signs and symptoms of infectious diseases like fever, respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, running nose, sore throat), conjunctivitis, skin rash, skin damage, etc. from participating the lesson.
  17. Participants should not go to class when too hungry or too full and should not run in the pool area.  They must follow the instructor’s instructions when in class and should not dive in any form unless supervised by the instructor.  Participants who feel unwell during a class should inform the instructor at once to avoid accidents.
  18. Water Safety Course for Baby (aged 4 or below): Each baby participant must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is aged 18 or above and the latter is also required to wear a swimming suit to take the course together with the participant in the pool.  No baby participant is allowed to attend the class if not accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  19. Swimming Course for Children or Participants (aged 5 to 8): It is suggested that parents/guardians should help the participants to change into their swimwear before lesson.  By presenting the parent’s card, they may enter the changing room of the swimming pool five minutes before the class starts/ends to help the participants get change.  After that, they should leave the pool complex immediately and get back their parent’s cards.  Official will issue the parent’s card to parents/guardians at the first lesson.  If parents/guardians wish to observe the participants during the lesson, they can enter pool area during the opening hours by paying admission fees.
  20. Swimming Course Level II / III / backstroke / butterfly stroke: Participants should pass the swimming test held in the first lesson before they can participate in the course.  Those who fail in the test will not be allowed to take part in the rest of the course.  Enrolment fee will be refunded after deduction of swimming pool admission fee.  Participants who fail to turn up for the swimming test will be deemed as waiving their right and the fees paid are not refundable. 
    Refund arrangement for those who fail in the swimming test:  Those who fail in the swimming test should return the original payment receipt of the training course to the DLSO organising the course.  The DLSO will arrange for refund.
  21. The “Swimming Test Record” is valid from the date of issue to 31 March of the following financial year.  To maximise resources, participants who possess a “Swimming Test Record” issued in the same financial year are advised to pass it to the instructor for recording their test results until the test record is fully utilised.
  22. For better use of resources, if the attendance at a training session falls below the lower limit of the lane capacity (i.e. four swimmers for a 25-metre pool lane and six for a 50-metre pool lane), the LCSD will make arrangement for two training classes to share a lane or open the lane concerned to other swimmers without prior notice to the participants.  No application for refund shall be entertained in such circumstances.
  23. After class, participants should get change as quickly as possible and leave the pool complex.  Participants are not allowed to stay within the pool area.  To ensure participants are safe to leave the pool complex, participants are required to get back their payment receipt when leaving the pool.  If participants do not collect back their payment receipt 20 minutes after the end of a swimming lesson, staff of LCSD will make public announcement to address the name of the participants to get back the payment receipt.  If longer time is required for changing, participants should inform the instructor or the sports official in advance.
