Madagascar Almond is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 5 to 10 m. It has an upright trunk with whorls of lateral branches spreading out horizontally. The widely oblanceolate simple leaves are 3 to 5 cm long, 1 to 1.5 cm wide, with hairy, brownish red petioles of 0.3 to 0.5 cm long, papery and stipule-lessand fasciculate on apex of short branches. The leaves turn red before falling off in winter. The white flowers, 2.5 to 4.5 cm long, are arranged in axillary spikes and bloom in April.
