Pincushion Tree is a deciduous tree native to Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Australia.  It has been introduced and cultivated in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

A rare species in Hong Kong, Pincushion Tree has hairless branches and papery or thin-leathery leaves which are elliptic or ovate in shape.  Its wood, with a yellowish-orange colour and a bitter taste, makes a good construction material.

About 100 years old, this old tree has a height of 20 m, a crown spread of 19 m and a DBH of 790 mm.
