Conductors and Piano Accompanists

Dr. Angelina Au

Dr. Angelina Au received her early musical training in Hong Kong, and was later awarded an Institute of International Education Scholarship to further her studies in the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hollins College, a Master of Music degree from the University of Miami, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the College-Conservatory of Cincinnati. Among her teachers are the internationally celebrated concert pianist Ivan Davis and the late piano pedagogue Santos Ojeda. In addition to appearances as solo and collaborative pianist in vocal and instrumental recitals, Dr. Au is also an accomplished singer with extensive experience in solo and choral singing, among which are several solo roles in opera productions.

Dr. Au is presently Senior Music Officer of the Musicianship/ Training Support Section of the Music Office, where her responsibilities include overseeing the organization of choral and musicianship training programmes, and the provision of support for the Instrumental Music Training Scheme. As conductor of the Music Office Youth Choir, Dr. Au has led the ensemble on a continued course of development, with recognition and honours won in overseas tours and competitions.

Lai Wing Yan

Hong Kong-born pianist Lai Wing-yan is a graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she majored in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Nancy Loo and graduated with first-class honour. She is also holder of the LTCL and FTCL in Piano Performance. While still a student, Lai was selected to perform in numerous masterclasses and received various scholarships. She has continued to perform as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician since graduation.

Lai is currently an Assistant Music Officer in the Musicianship Section of the Music Office, where in addition to her teaching duties, she has accompanied numerous trainees and collaborated with many guest musicians in various Music Office concerts. Lai has served as conductor and accompanist of the Music Office Children's Choir since 2014.

Kobe Ip

Kobe Ip graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Queensland, where he had received numerous scholarships and awards, including the University of Queensland Arts Faculty Fee-pay scholarship, University of Queensland and St Leo's College Music Achievement Scholarship, and Dean Commendations from the Arts Faculty. Ip is an active musician who composes and performs as both piano soloist and accompanist. His jazz arrangement was selected by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Government as an exemplar for the New Secondary School Music Curriculum. Ip is also an active choral singer, and was respectively a choral scholar at the St. John's Cathedral Brisbane and a member of the University of Queensland chorale.

Ip is currently an Assistant Music Officer in the Musicianship section of the Music Office, where in addition to his teaching duties, serves as manager, conductor and accompanist of the Music Office Children's Choir.

Yau Man-ching

Yau Man-ching graduated from the Music Department of Hong Kong Baptist University, where she studied piano with renowned composer and pianist Cui Shi-Guang, and received her vocal training from Jeffie Leung. Since then, Yau has been remained as an active performer and made frequent appearances in concerts as pianist, vocalist and chamber musician.

Yau is currently Assistant Music Officer of the Musicianship Section of the Music Office, where she previously served as conductor and manager of the Music Office Children's Choir and has served accompanist and manager of the Music Office Youth Choir since 2016.
