 1 All courses are designed for music beginners without musical training background.
 2 Applicants must meet the age requirement as stated in each course.  The age of applicants is calculated as at 15 July 2026.

The course instructor of this paired music workshop will introduce basic music concepts such as note values, music notation, rhythms and different Chinese and western musical instruments, and help children to develop their sense of rhythm, listening, learning skills and concentration through an array of interactive activities.

This paired music workshop is designed for children and parents to get to know the appearances, tone colours and characteristics of selected Chinese and western musical instruments guided by the Music Office instrumental instructors, in addition to listening to live demonstration. Phase 1 Application (Balloting)

 

 

Online Application  Application deadline:  7 May (Thu)

 

Upon completion of application, applicant will receive an application number for checking the balloting result afterwards.

 

Applicant who does not receive the acknowledgement of application, along with an application number by 12 May, should check with the Music Office before 5pm on that day to confirm the application.  Upon submission of application, the applicant is deemed to have fully understood and agreed to comply with all class rules and remarks in connection with the Summer Music Workshops of the Music Office.

 

Balloting Result

Oversubscribed workshops will be processed by ballot.  Applicants are welcome to attend the ballot to be conducted at the Music Office Shatin Music Centre  on 14 May at 11am.  Applicants can check the balloting results on our webpage from 15 May onwards.

 

Each successful applicant will be offered not more than 1 class in Phase 1 application.  This restriction will be lifted from 26 June, which is the second working day of the remaining quota enrolment period.

Payment Method

Successful applicants should settle the tuition fee through the following methods by 27 May, otherwise, he/ she will be deemed to have given up the application and his/ her place will be opened to the applicants on the waiting list.  All fee paid are non-refundable or non-transferable.  Payment receipt/ e-payment acknowledgement (hereinafter referred to as “receipt”) will be issued after payment, trainees should read carefully the class details on the payment receipt, present the receipt in the first lesson and keep it until the end of the Workshops .

 

 

A.

Online payment

A specific link will be provided in the notification email for online payment by VISA, MasterCard, UnionPay, JCB, PPS (for PPS internet account holders only) and FPS.  After online payment, only e-receipt will be given and no separate receipt will be issued.

 

 

B.

By Post/ In Person

Successful applicant may settle the tuition fee at the Music Office Shatin Music Centre (Rm 721, 7/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Shatin, New Territories) in person or by a representative during the designated time, together with original/ photocopy/ digital copy of the applicant’s identification document.  Payment can be made by FPS or crossed cheque (cheques should be made payable to "The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region".  Postdated cheques will not be accepted.  Successful applicant could also submit the cheque by post# to the above-mentioned Shatin Music Centre.

 

 

 

i.

The crossed cheque should be made payable to "The Government of the HKSAR".  Please also state the application number and name of applicant at the back of the cheque.  Postdated cheques will not be accepted.

 

 

 

ii.

Service hours of the Music Office payment collection service: Monday to Friday (Closed on Public Holidays) 10am to 12nn and 2pm to 4pm.

 

 

 

iii.

A stamped#and self-addressed envelope is required for applicants who submit payment by mail.  If any applicant enrolled does not receive the payment receipt by 29 May, please check with the Music Office accordingly.

 

 

There will be a waiting list for all oversubscribed workshops with effective until 15 June.  If vacancies are available after the payment due date for successful applicants, the applicants on the waiting list will receive by email from 3 June the notification to payment by email according to the priority order on the waiting list.  If applicants do not receive any notification by 15 June, he/ she may assume that his/ her application is unsuccessful.

 

Unsuccessful applicants can apply for the workshops while vacancies still available after Phase 1 application.  Application is open on a first-come-first-served basis in the remaining quota application period.  No notification will be sent to applicants for the remaining quota enrolment.

 

 

# Underpaid mail items will not be accepted and such items will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post.

Remaining Quota Enrolment (First-come-first-served): from 25 June to one working day before class commencement

 

For workshops not fully taken up in Phase 1 application, the remaining quotas will be available on our webpage from 24 June, 10am and onwards, and will be released for open application on a first-come-first-served basis from 25 June and onwards.  Service hours of the Music Office payment collection service is every Monday to Friday (Closed on Public Holidays) 10am to 12nn and 2pm to 4pm.

 

Applicants should download the application form on our webpage and submit the completed application form, together the applicant’s identification document (original/ photocopy/ digital copy) and the tuition fee, in person or by a representative to the Music Office Shatin Music Centre (Rm 721, 7/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Shatin, New Territories) during the above-mentioned payment collection service hours.  Payment can be made by FPS and crossed cheque (made payable to "The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region").  Postdated cheques will not be accepted.

 

Quota tags will be distributed at 10am on the first day (i.e. 25 June) of the remaining quota enrolment and all applications will be processed according to the order of tag numbers.  Each applicant is allowed to submit a maximum of two application forms, with limited quotas on a first-come-first-served basis.  Restrictions on “one workshop per trainee” will be lifted from 26 June 10am, i.e. the second working day of the remaining quota application period.  Applicants, including trainees who have successfully enrolled in Phase 1 recruitment, can apply for workshops still with remaining quotas.

 

If the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Red/ Black Rainstorm Warning Signal, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Pre-No. 8 or Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above at any time during 7am– 10am, or the government issues during the above period an "Extreme Condition" announcement, or the Shatin Music Centre has to be closed due to special circumstance on the first day of the remaining quota enrolment (i.e. 25 June), the enrolment will be postponed to 26 June. If the inclement weather/ special circumstance continues, please pay attention to the announcement on the Music Office’s website for the latest enrolment arrangements.

Class Rules and Remarks

1.

Trainees shall present their payment receipts/ e-payment acknowledgements and identification documents (original/ copy/ digital copy) in the first lesson for verification by the instructors or staff of the Music Office.

2.

Trainees shall attend the lessons in person and shall not ask another person to take their places during lessons.

3.

Trainees shall not change class without permission; otherwise, their right of attendance will be terminated and no refund or transfer of tuition fee will be made.

4.

Trainees shall be punctual in class and shall not be absent from classes without valid reasons as absenteeism adversely affects learning progress.  The Music Office will not arrange make-up class or refund for absentees.

5.

Arriving late and/ or leaving early for more than 15 minutes shall be regarded as absent.

6.

No eating, drinking or smoking is allowed in the class.

7.

Please set the mobile phones on silent mode and ensure that other sound and light emitting devices are switched off in the class.

8.

Trainees are not allowed to make audio/ video recording, take photos, screenshots or rebroadcast in class in order to protect the privacy of all parties.

9.

The Music Office reserves the rights to make and retain audio and visual recordings of the trainees during class or other functions held by the Music Office for the purposes of archive, reference and publicity of Music Office’s activities.

10.

Trainees shall take good care of the facilities in the classroom, behave in an orderly manner, show respect to the instructors, and observe all rules laid down by the Laws of Hong Kong and the Music Office. Otherwise, the Music Office reserves the right to expel them from class, and refund of tuition fee will not be made. Besides, trainees are liable to compensation for damages to public property.

11.

The Music Office reserves the rights to change the class arrangement due to contingency (e.g. venue closed, extreme weather or epidemic situation). Trainees have no right to oppose the same.

12.

Classes will be suspended and postponed accordingly when the Music Office fails to arrange a substitute for any instructor who is absent due to sickness or force majeure.  The Music Office will not arrange another make-up class or refund for individual trainee who is unable to attend the scheduled make-up class.

13.

If the following circumstances occur or have occurred within the three-hour period before the class starts, classes will be cancelled accordingly without notification and no make-up class or refund will be arranged:

 

i.

Red/Black Rainstorm Warning; or

 

ii.

"Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement” (i.e. as announced on the Hong Kong Observatory’s webpage “Status of Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement”); or

 

iii.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above; or

 

iv.

Extreme Condition

 

【Classes will be conducted as scheduled if the above circumstances ceased three hours before class commencement (e.g. if the tropical cyclone warning signal is lowered at 11am, classes starting before 2pm will still be cancelled while classes starting from 2pm and onwards will be held as usual).  It is at the discretion of parents as to whether to let their children attend classes.】

14.

Trainees and their parent / guardian must comply to the above-mentioned Class Rules and Remarks.

15.

The Music Office reserves the right to change/ cancel the class and are subject to the latest updates announced by the Music Office.

Certificate of Attendance

 

 

 

Trainees with 80% attendance will be eligible for the award of the Certificate of Attendance.  Eligible trainees should collect the certificates in the last lesson or present in person with the payment receipts/ e-payment acknowledgement between 1 to 25 September 2026 (Monday to Friday and Closed on Public Holidays) during 9:30am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 6pm at the Music Office Shatin Music Centre (Rm 721, 7/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Shatin, New Territories).  Trainees who fail to collect the certificates during the collection period are deemed to have given up the same, and reissuance will not be made by the Music Office.
