2019 Summer Music Workshop

 

Children between aged 4 and 12 years are welcome to join in the marvelous music world!

Lesson:  5 lessons ; 1.5 hrs each 
Participants:    ① Music training experience is not required

Parent-child Jolly Music Time - Aged 4 to 6 children music workshop (Each student must be accompanied by a parent / an adult)

Aged 4 to 6 children music workshop (Each student must be accompanied by a parent / an adult)

Through music listening and eurhythmics training, students will develop their listening skills and rhythmic sense, and further enrich students’ basic theory knowledge such as music notation, note values, rhythms and etc. In addition, through images or videos introduction, students will learn to distinguish the types of Western and Chinese musical instruments and their playing methods.

 

* Students should bring personal stationery (including blue or black ballpoint pen, 2B pencil, color pen and eraser) to class.

Through instructor's explanation of basic music theory, students will consolidate their music knowledge such as rhythms, pitches, dynamics, emotions and tone colors. In addition, a music guide Meet Music edited by the Music Office will be used to show students different types of Chinese and Western musical instruments, as well as their appearances, tone colors and characteristics.

 

* Students should bring personal stationery (including blue or black ballpoint pen, 2B pencil, color pen and eraser) to class.

Aged 10 to 12 music ensemble workshop

Through the use of the tablet’s music software, students will be experiencing the fun of  ensemble playing and music making. In addition, a music guide Meet Music edited by the Music Office will be used  to show students different types of Chinese and Western musical instruments, as well as their appearances, tone colors and characteristics.

* Students should bring along their own i-pad (suitable model: iPad Pro, iPad5, iPad6, iPad Air 2), a portable Bluetooth speaker (battery: Lithium polymer rechargeable battery; transmission range: around 10 meters) and stationery (including blue or black ballpoint pen, 2B pencil, color pen and eraser) to class.

Introduction to Chinese and Western Musical Instruments

Successful applicants who made the workshop payment  will receive an email invitation from the Music Office on or before July 9 to one of the "Introduction to Chinese and Western Musical Instruments" sessions. Interested participants are required to reply the invitation email to register before July 18. Places are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Applicant who does not receive the acknowledgement of application, along with an application number, by 12 June should call the Music Office before 5pm on that day to confirm the application.

# Underpaid mail items will not be accepted and such items will be handled by the Hong Kong Post.

 

Balloting

Oversubscribed workshops will be processed by ballot. Applicants are welcome to attend the ballot to be conducted at the Shatin Music Centre on 14 June at 10am. The balloting result will be available from 15 June.

 

Successful applicant should make the workshop payment  through the following methods by 25 June, otherwise, the successful applicant will be deemed to have given up the allocated places and he/she shall not oppose to any arrangements. The remaining quota will be filled by the applicants on the waiting list. Fee paid are not refundable or transferable. Successful applicants are encourage to submit the workshop fee as soon as possible. All trainees should present the payment receipt and identification document for verification in the first lesson, or would not be allowed to attend the workshop.

A specific link will be provided in the email for online payment by VISA, MasterCard or PPS. After online payment, only online acknowledgement will be given and no separate receipt will be issued. (*The PPS payment method is only for PPS account holders with internet passwords)

  1. A crossed cheque made payable to the "Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region". Please also state the application number and name of applicant at the back of the cheque. Postdated cheques will not be accepted^.
  2. Music Office payment hours: Monday to Friday (Closed on Public Holidays) 10am to 12nn ; 2pm to 4pm.
  3. A self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage# is required for applicant who sends in the cheques by mail.
  4. If any applicant enrolled does not receive the payment receipt on or before 27 June, please check with Music Office at 2158 6466/ 2158 6463.

There will be a waiting list for all oversubscribed workshops. If there are places available after the payment due date for successful applicants, the applicants on the waiting list will be notified on 28 June by email according to the order on the waiting list for payment details. If applicants do not receive any notification by 8 July, he/she may assume that the application is unsuccessful.

Remaining Quota

 

For workshops not fully taken up in Phase 1, the remaining quotas will be available on this webpage, from 11 July, 10am, and will be released for open application on a first-come-first-served basis from 12 July, 10am, onwards. Applicants should submit the completed application form, together with workshop fee (a crossed cheque made payable to the "Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region"; postdated cheques will not be accepted) in-person or by a representative to the following address. Each person is allowed to submit a maximum of 3 applications.

Attendance Rules

 

  1. 1. A trainee shall attend the lessons in person and shall not ask another person to take his place during lessons.
  2. 2. A trainee shall not change class without permission; otherwise, his right of attendance will be terminated and no refund of tuition fee will be made.
  3. 3. A trainee shall be punctual in class. Arriving late and/or leaving early for more than a fourth of the class time shall be regarded as absent.
  4. 4. A trainee shall not be absent from class without a valid reason as absenteeism adversely affects learning progress. The Music Office will not arrange make-up class or refund for absentees.
  5. 5. The Music Office reserves the rights to change the instructor, time and venue of the course due to contingency. Trainees have no right to oppose the same.
  6. 6. No eating, drinking or smoking is allowed in the class.
  7. 7. Mobile phones and pagers must be switched off during lessons.
  8. 8. A trainee shall take good care of the facilities in the classroom, behave in an orderly manner, show respect for instructors, and observe all rules laid down by the Music Office and the Laws of Hong Kong. Otherwise, the Music Office reserves the right to remove him from class, and refund of tuition fee paid will not be made. Besides, a trainee is liable to compensation for damages to public property.
  9. 9. The Music Office reserves the rights to make and retain audio and visual recordings of the trainees' performance in the class or other functions held by the Music Office for the purposes of archive, reference and publicity of Music Office related activities.

 

Remarks

 

  1. 1. Classes will be suspended & postponed accordingly when the Music Office fails to arrange a substitute for any instructor who is absent due to an emergency.
  2. 2. The Music Office will not arrange another make-up class or refund for individual trainee who is unable to attend the scheduled makeup.
  3. 3. Classes will be cancelled (no make-up classes will be arranged) under below conditions:
    1.   I. the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Red/Black Rainstorm Warning during the three-hour period before class; or
    2.   II. the Hong Kong Observatory issues a "Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement” or hoists Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above during the three-hour period before class.
    3.   [However, classes will be conducted as scheduled if the above warning signal is lowered three hours before class (e.g. if the warning signal is lowered at 11am, classes starting before 2pm will be cancelled while classes starting from 2pm onwards will be held as usual).]
  4. 4. In the event that the Education Bureau announces a closure of all schools due to special circumstances (e.g. flu), please observe the announcement in the Music Office’s website or contact the Music Office for the latest class arrangements.
  5. 5. In the event of a typhoon or other inclement weather, it is at the discretion of parents as to whether to let their children attend classes and trainees are advised to view the latest weather condition regularly. No make-up class will be arranged for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.
