The ‘Music for the Millions’(MFM) is one of the school music promotion programmes organised by the Music Office. With an aim to cultivate students’ interest in fine music from different cultures and let them get to know better of the Chinese and Western instruments, the themed concerts reach out to primary and secondary schools across districts, delivering over a hundred performances annually.

In 1978, the late renowned Hong Kong composer Mr. Joseph Koo composed the theme melody for the MFM concerts, while the former staff of the Music Office collectively penned the lyrics to introduce the mission and work of the Office. The piece was then arranged into various versions for performances by the Office’s Chinese and Western orchestras and choirs at the ‘Music for the Millions’ Concerts and many other events. It has not only become a signature piece of the Office, but also a cherished work that resonates with the public, carrying fond memories of music learning.
