District Free Entertainment Programmes

Every year, a total of around 600 district free entertainment programmes, funded by District Councils, are organized on a monthly basis at various outdoor and indoor venues, such as parks, playgrounds, podiums/plazas of housing estates, community arts centres and community halls. These programmes, which offer a wide choice to cater for diversified interests of the public, include cultural programmes (covering western and Chinese programmes of classical and traditional nature) and popular programmes (performances with a popular appeal, such as variety show, pop concert and magic show). These programmes not only promote the performing arts but also serve to provide performance opportunities for upcoming artists and arts groups.

Other Special Programmes

The Entertainment Office also cooperates with District Councils, district/community organizations and sponsors in organizing special programmes and major events, such as coordinating the organization of the Fireworks Displays in cooperation with the sponsor and other government departments, co-organizing the “Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances”and “Concert in the Park”with various Consulates-General based in Hong Kong.

Way Forward

To keep up with the pace of our city life, we will continue the endeavours to strengthen the major events/carnivals by introducing new and exciting elements to compliment the well-received traditional programmes. We will also conduct regular reviews of district entertainment programmes to cater for needs of the community.
