Marriage Advertisements: The Romantic Life of Republican Women
Based on the marriage advertisements published in newspapers in the Republican period, the speaker will take an in-depth look at social relationships, the reasons for these advertisements, the marital conditions experienced by wives and concepts of romance among women in this era to show the changes that women's lives underwent after the revolution.

Dr Sun Yat-sen and Cheng Biguang: Unrest in Guangdong during the Early Republican Period and the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution
The speaker will illustrate how Dr Sun Yat-sen established the revolutionary government to protect the constitution in 1917 with the help of Cheng Biguang, his fellow townsman and the chief of the Beiyang Navy. The talk will also cover the unsolved murder of Cheng in Guangzhou in 1918 and its impact on the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution.
