Temporary Closure of Space Theatre
The Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum is temporarily closed from 1 May for refurbishment. The Space Theatre is expected to reopen in July next year to bring an improved new visual experience to the public. The major work of the refurbishment project consists of replacing the dome screen. The existing dome screen, installed in 1996, is composed of more than 400 pieces of curved aluminium panels, which form a hemispherical surface with visible overlapped junctions. The new seamless dome screen, with applied NanoSeam technology, will upgrade the quality of sky shows by improving their brightness and resolution.
In addition, the new planetarium projection system, with new active 3D glasses, can support the rendering of ultra-high resolution stereo images with better brightness levels and an improved contrast ratio. Upon completion of the refurbishment, the Space Theatre will be fully upgraded to meet international standards that will provide more audio-visual enjoyment for the audience.
During the closure period of the Space Theatre, other museum facilities including the Exhibition Halls, Lecture Hall and the Gift Shop will remain open as usual. For details of the museum's programmes and latest news, please visit other relevant pages at this website.
