The Space Theatre has been closed for almost nine months. The refurbishment is in full swing and has now come to the critical stage: replacement of the dome screen.
Installing the dome screen in a 23-metre hemisphere is definitely not a simple task. Each screen panel is custom-cut and fitted into place according to the curvature which requires high precision. Utilising the NanoSeam technology, the new dome screen of Space Theatre will be composed of 421 unique panels, each less than 1 mm thick. Unlike the old dome screen, which used overlapping panels, the new NanoSeam dome has panels that fit into each other perfectly, so the screen surface will be very uniform. With this new screen, images of all kinds will look sharper and more immersive.
The greyish-white dome screen might look bland, however, it is the stage for all of the amazing imagery that can be shown in the Space Theatre. It is the part of the Space Theatre that everyone is looking at all the time. We hope that this "new stage" will provide our audience with another level of experience in exploring the nature and the Universe.
