The two permanent exhibition halls in Hong Kong Space Museum are closed for replacement of exhibits and renovation work, and are expected to re-open at the end of 2016.

From 2 March 2016 to the end of 2016 (exact date of the latter to be confirmed), Box office sells tickets of Stanley Ho Space Theatre, Lecture Hall programmes which use the URBTIX service and weekly museum passes.

(2) The following new initiatives for the fee-charging museums of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will come into effect from 1 August 2016 –


- The permanent exhibitions of five fee-charging museums (i.e. Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of ArtNote, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum) will be opened to all free of charge;

- The permanent exhibitions of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Space MuseumNote will be opened to full-time students free of charge;

- The admission charges for the permanent exhibitions of the Hong Kong Science Museum will be revised to $20 for standard ticket, $14 for group ticket and $10 for concessionary ticket; and

- The charges for annual museum passes will be revised to $100 for family pass, $50 for individual pass and $25 for concessionary pass. Half-yearly, monthly and weekly museum passes will no longer be available.

Note: The Hong Kong Museum of Art and the permanent exhibition halls of the Hong Kong Space Museum are currently closed for renovation and are targeted to be re-opened in 2019 and late 2016 respectively.

Notice

It was announced in the 2016 Policy Address that the Government has decided to make the free admission to the permanent exhibitions of designated Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) museums a standing practice. Specifically, the permanent exhibitions of five fee- charging LCSD museums (i.e. the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum) will offer free admission for the public. The permanent exhibitions of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Space Museum will offer free admission for full-time students.  The charges for annual museum passes will be reduced by 50%.  All other museum passes (i.e. half-yearly, monthly and weekly passes) will be abolished.The new initiative will come into effect from 1 August 2016.

In 2016-17, LCSD plans to organise the following special exhibitions* which will levy additional admission charges. Holders of valid museum passes (except museum weekly passes) will enjoy unlimited free admission to these special exhibitions:
- "Roman Navy and Pompeii" (June - August 2016) and "Hong Kong Toys" (March - May 2017) at the Hong Kong Museum of History;
- "Royal Wedding Ceremony of the Qing Dynasty" (November 2016 - February 2017) at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum; and
- "Animal Grossology" (July - November 2016) at the Hong Kong Science Museum.
