Starry Sky under the Pineapple Bun

Isn't that the Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum has dome shows on only? Can we see stars in this light-flooded city? Want to know more about stars but don't know how to get started?

The Space Theatre of the Space Museum was reopened after renovation in 2021. The renovation project included the replacement of a seamless screen using the latest NanoSeam technology. Together with the advanced digital sky projection system, these facilities provide immersive images to the audience, bringing them a unique outdoor experience. The digital sky projection system simulates the surface features of the planets, such as Venus and Jupiter. Audience will be able to take a closer look at the Galilean moons orbiting around Jupiter, the Cassini division on the rings of Saturn, as well as real time images of the Milky Way and deep sky celestial bodies. Speakers will be arranged by the Space Museum to give ad hoc presentations to the audience, who can enjoy the fun of travelling through space even though they are in the geographic heart of the city.

The Space Museum will open the Space Theatre to the public free of charge on specific Tuesday evenings. Members of the public may enjoy the starry sky projected by the digital sky projection system and at the same time get to know some stargazing techniques and learn about the fascinating stories of the constellations from the speakers. The rooftop of the Space Museum will also be opened so that members of the public can test in situ whether they are able to identify the stars shining that night through the astronomical telescopes provided to enjoy the fun of stargazing. Come and join any time during the event.
