A) Visiting the Museum
1. How do I get to the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware?
Located inside the Hong Kong Park, the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware is adjacent to the Queensway Government Offices and Pacific Place. Visitors can reach the Museum via the following means of public transport followed by a short walk: (1) MTR Tsuen Wan Line at Admiralty Station, Exit C1, followed by a 10-minute (approx.) walk. (2) Take buses 3B, 12, 12A, 23, 23B, 40, 103 to the Garden Road or Cotton Tree Drive (except bus 12) bus station, followed by a 10- minute (approx.) walk. (3) Taxis and other vehicles may drop off visitors at Supreme Court Road, followed by a 5-minute (approx.) walk.
2. How about the admission charge?
Admission to the Museum is free.
3. What are the opening hours?
The Museum opens daily from 10 am to 6 pm; and closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays). Opening hours on Christmas Eve and Chinese New Year's Eve : 10 am to 5 pm and closed on the first two days of Chinese New Year.
4. What facilities are available for visitors with disabilities?
Washrooms for the disabled are available on the G/F. We have also prepared a PowerPoint file for introducing the exhibition in 1/F Galleries. Wheelchair users are welcomed to borrow from the counter staff subject to availability. In addition, wheelchair users may access the K.S. Lo Gallery by using the passenger lift found on G/F. Coaches from rehabilitation centres may drop off visitors at the Museum front entrance (no vehicles are allowed to enter Hong Kong Park from 12nn to 2pm). B) Programme Application
How to apply for our free programmes?
Please call us at 2869 0690 / 2869 6690 for telephone booking or get the chip on the programme date at the lobby of the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware for participation.
How to apply for our fee-based programmes?
Please complete the "Education and Extension Programmes Application Form" by clicking here to download. You may fax, post or bring your application to our office in person (during office hours) on or before the stated deadline. Other application details are as follows :
1. Am I entitled to a discount?
Yes, valid applicants are entitled to any one of the discounts provided by the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware. Submit photocopies of all relevant documents together with your application form. For more details, please refer to the ‘Notes on Discount'.
2. May I submit more than one application form for any given programme?
Only one application form is accepted per programme.
3. May I use one application form to apply for more than one programme?
You must fill out one application form per programme. You may, however, use your first application to make a copy for other programme applications.
4. May I apply for the same programme on different dates?
You may apply to only one instance of each programme.
5. How can I attend a programme ?
We accept applications at the beginning of each quarter. If the quota is exceeded, participants will be decided by open lot drawing.
6. If there are vacancies for a particular programme after the deadline, may I apply?
Yes, we accept applications on a first-come-first-served basis until the quota is full.
7. Will the programme be conducted if the number of applicants does not reach the minimum number required?
The museum reserves the right to cancel any of its programmes if the number of applications is below the minimum requirement.
8. Should I submit my programme fee with the application form?
There is no need to submit the programme fee at the time of application. Applicants will be notified by post. Successful applicants must submit a cheque payable to "The Government of HKSAR", before the date stated in the notification letter. After the deadline, seats will no longer be reserved. The Museum reserves the right to re-allocate seats to applicants on the waiting list.
9. How can I get on the waiting list?
Unsuccessful applicants will be placed on the waiting list automatically in an order decided by lot drawing.
10. How will the museum contact someone on the waiting list?
The successful waiting applicant will be contacted and informed by phone.
11. When should I pay my material fee?
Payment will be accepted by the instructor in cash only on the first day of the course.
12. Are programme fees refundable?
Programme fees are not refundable.
13. May I transfer programme quota to another applicant?
Programme quotas are non-transferable.
C) School and Group Visit
1. Application qualifications
Kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, post-secondary institutions, universities, registered charitable organisations and non-profit-making organisations are welcome to apply. Please click here to download the ‘Guided Tour Service' application form.
2. When should we apply?
Applications should be made at least 3 weeks in advance of your intended visit.
3. May we make a reservation over the phone?
Sorry, we only accept bookings received via an application form. You may, however, call 2869 9604 / 2869 9605 to check availability.
4. When will the arrangements of our visit be confirmed?
We will confirm the details of your intended visit at least one week in advance.
5. Where can we park the coach?
We do not offer on-site parking. Participants can be dropped-off and picked-up at the Garden Road Peak Tram Station.
6. We have more than 150 students. May we all visit at the same time?
The Museum can only accommodate around 100 students to visit the Museum at one time. For the remaining students, they will be admitted to the Museum at another time slot.
7. How long do guided tours last?
Guided tours last for about 1 hour.
8. What do guided tours cover?
If you choose to visit only one exhibition, the guided tour covers more in depth information about the exhibition theme and characteristics of the exhibits. If you choose to visit more than one exhibition, docents will give students a general idea of what our museum is and how it operates while introducing some highlights of the current exhibitions. If you have a specific theme for the visit, please state it on your application form. Our docents are able to modify the touring route according to your request. The tour, however, will still focus on our exhibitions.
9. May we take photographs?
You may take photographs without flash and tripod in most of our galleries. Please ask the guards at the entrance of the gallery if you have any doubts.
10. May we stay behind after the guided tour?
Yes, you may stay behind and continue to visit the museum on your own.
