The world's oldest picture postcard dates back 178 years to England in 1840. Postcards are designed to be posted without the need for envelope. The message written on a postcard can be read by other people, so it generally does not include any private information. Postcards often feature a picture on the front, such as a depiction of beautiful natural scenery, reproductions of famous paintings or propaganda cartoons, etc., while the sender affixes stamps and writes the recipient's address and a message on the back.
Postcards are ordinary objects, but they can be used as an artistic medium. They are generally a standard size, but people can represent their different worldviews on them. Audiences were invited to visit Postcard Journey at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and to take their time over writing down your experience of the exhibition and the centre. After viewing the images and reading the texts related to postcards and works of art, audiences can try to put their thoughts and responses into words. Express their feelings on your postcard in a simple and direct way and then post it to an artist or a friend. Their feelings can form part of an artist's collection.
In contrast with the rapid exchange of information on the Internet, we set out to create slow and sincere communication by using postcards.
