Can
a
sunken
coin
generate
hope?
In-between
floating
and
sinking,
a
performance
coincides
with
an
allegory.
(1)
If
everyone
could
make
a
single
wish,
And
if
each
wish
had
to
come
true,
Would
the
world
end
up
a
better
place
–
or
worse?
Is
this
really
a
fairy
tale
–
or
in
fact
a
curse?

(2)
People
pretty
much
lack
hope
these
days.
So
I
want
to
stock
an
emergency
kit
To
give
urgent
treatment
to
their
hope.
Some
may
share
my
optimism,
But
more
will
ask
the
question,
What
is
hope?

(3)
A
kind
of
tinnitus
that
connects
to
numbness.
A
kind
of
sound
that
passes
through
water.
A
kind
of
rainbow
that
glitters
in
the
darkness.

To further extend media art to all walks of life, promote art accessibility in a wider culture of art for all and enrich the experience of artists/audience with different abilities in all possible art forms, vA! has identified an alternative site location in Jockey Club PHAB Camp of Hong Kong PHAB Association to produce an accessible media art performance and invited a group of artists/ musicians/ performers led by GayBird to explore new creative frontiers of media technologies in contemporary art. GayBird characterised the swimming pool of the Camp as a wishing pool and produced a site-specific cross media performance named ‘Emergency Kit & Wishing Pool', to project people's emotion and future hope to the city.
GayBird's exploratory return in 2019 involved a slight withdrawal from the world of music and a leap forward to a different artistic landscape. Set in a swimming pool, the work reflected that obscure condition between floating and sinking in a vivid representation of the collective ambiguities of the city and its people. Voicelessness can be a silent cry. Ripples in the water can have far-reaching effects. This is a concert that resembles talking in one's sleep and offers an allegorical representation of a city.
