This Slow. That Fast: Animamix Biennale 2013-14 | Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department The Animamix Biennale has been held in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Taipei since 2007, showcasing contemporary art under the influence of the unique aesthetic and culture of animation and comics. In 2013-14, apart from Shanghai and Beijing, Daegu in Korea, Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong also participate in the festival. vA! and Oi! will collaborate with the City University of Hong Kong in organising the exhibition to examine ‘time' and ‘speed'— the intrinsic nature of animation and comics. The speediness and slowness in animation affects our mental and cognitive perception towards visual images; while contemporary art often shapes time into grotesques through various media and technologies. They challenge the established conception of the viewers and open up a broader aesthetical experience for our sensual world. The major exhibition at the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Center of City University of Hong Kong will feature a series of new media art, installation, sculptural and graphical works created by local artists including anothermountainman, Chow Chun-fai, John Choy, Henry Chu, Scott Hessels, Ho Sin-tung, Alan Kwan, Kelvin Lee, Zoie So, Jeffrey Shaw, Sinan Goo, Tamas Waliczky, Simon Wan and Albert Yu. The exhibition at the other two venues will showcase outstanding works by the alumni and teaching artists of the School of Creative Media at the City University of Hong Kong. Come and indulge yourself in a brand-new experience with intriguing notions of time and speed.
