Reading, shredding, knitting and travelling to cities around the world enabled Movana to share intimate stories of people meet in the journey.
In this ongoing series ‘Travelling into your bookshelf', Movana conducted her 15th stop: Knitting Conversations at Oi!. It had no limits in terms of time, space, place or format. Through meeting friends and strangers and reading their books, she attempted to establish relationships with them and exploring their memories and maintaining a two-way communication. Through her knitting process with the participants around the neighborhood of North Point and at Oi!, she created a new way of reading and enabling the viewers to re-examine the existing communication barriers between people.
Participants joined the "Knitting Conservation" workshop in which Movana shared her cultural experience of knitting conversation with strangers in the last 14 stops around the world. Participants all enjoyed knitting in the beautiful sunny weather and sparked creative inspirations through this alternative communication.
Stories, novels and printed matter were combined into a single flowing piece with all the narratives intertwined. Through the repetitive action of knitting a connection has been forged, and together with participants a shared space is initiated and entered into. This space allowed for personal stories and feelings to be gently shared with exchanges becoming a part of the existing texts. As layers were collaboratively woven into these existing stories, a tapestry evolved; a tapestry of shared memories, emotions and dreams.
It was full of adventures, inspirations, surprises, and energy: everyone was connected.
