"Station by the Sea at Oku-Noto Triennale 2023 – Residence and Exhibition Programme" Call for Proposals
BackPresented by: Leisure and Cultural Services Department
Organised by: Art Promotion Office
Collaborator: Oku-Noto Triennale Executive Committee
Located at the tip of the Noto Peninsula on the northern coast of Japan, Oku-Noto was a fortress of marine transportation and a pioneer in trade and culture exchange in Japan. Located adjacent to both the ocean and the mountains, Oku-Noto has preserved satoyama (rural areas) and satoumi (sea areas), part of the United Nations' designated Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) and unique culture. However, owing to urbanization and population migration, this rich natural and cultural heritage on cape of the Noto Peninsula, like the Suzu Railway, which once ran for more than 100 kilometres, has gradually been forgotten. In view of this situation, the Oku-Noto Triennale is creating an "art festival at the furthest edge of the world", using contemporary art to raise people's awareness of the traditional culture, landscape and scenery in the peninsula.
With the approach of the 3rd Oku-Noto Triennale in 2023, the Art Promotion Office (APO) and the Oku-Noto Triennale Executive Committee are jointly calling for residence and exhibition proposals to invite Hong Kong artists and cross-disciplinary talent to participate in the "Station by the Sea at Oku-Noto Triennale 2023 – Residence and Exhibition Programme". One selected artist / art team will reside in Suzu to explore the local nature, history and culture and connect with the locals to gain inspiration for the creation of artwork(s) and public programme(s).
