Fashion designer Toby Crispy reconnects people's relationship through slow stitching and demonstrates how clothing can be sustainable. Through art displays and workshops, visitors can learn more about the craftsmanship of stitching, and slow down to regain the forgotten life episodes and wisdoms.
The project, entitled "SLOW STiTCH NOMAD @ Oi!", could be interpreted by the artist's words: "Slow — Length of time, breadth of heart, temperature of matter, depth of story. Stitch — The pronunciation of "黹" and "ji" is the same. The fingers and the wrist are slightly rotating while every part of nerves are dancing rhythmically with the needle and thread on the cloth. The forgotten gentle touch and interaction with the body and soul are now reconnected, is it "forgotten" or "unforgettable"? Home - Home is everywhere, home is our heart. What is home? It can be as simple as a feeling of safety and calm."
Our ancestors lived from nomadic life to today's nomadism. We have evolved from primitive Ronin to futuristic ideological travellers. For the unchanging essence of life, let us continue in our ways. Slow down and go back to where we started. Looking back on how got here from the past, relearn the skills that our ancestors taught us, and preserve what we want to pass down to the future. Let collective stitching become a human landscape that stitches people's hearts together, reconstructing a new look of community space.
