As a witness to the course of time and the evolution of cities, the sea also evokes emotions and memories, responds to the development of natural ecology and, at the same time, shapes the cultural ambiance of the city and tells the story of the island.
Oi! is housed in the former clubhouse of the yacht club, which is built in the early 20th century and originally stands on the coastline. As time pass, Oi! is now surrounded by blocks of high-rises.
Oi! welcomed the new extension development and the exhibition that starts out from a humble idea to try to initiate more comprehensive enquiries. Zheng Bo, Leung Chi-wo and MAP Office (Laurent Gutierrez and Valérie Portefaix) were invited to ride on the notion of the sea and look back on the geographical history of Oi!. Using different types of narratives, the relationship between nature, culture and society was explored as a way to find the solid values that we share and to review history, reflect on the present and look forward to the future.
The persistent conviction we have for life, which once was lost, will eventually return to us.
