"Treasures are waiting for us in the Gardens!"
Veteran photographer Leong Ka-tai has travelled around the globe for more than 40 years in search of, as well as to capture, changing trends in photography. He is well-acquainted with photographing the best vantage points at scenic spots the world over and how travellers share their images on social media nowadays. In this project, he invites members of the public to take part in an interactive experience of contemporary photography in a wondrous treasure hunt on the grounds of the Gardens: they can take pictures at the "selfie points" he has specially designed, and share the results on a mobile app and the TV screen on site.
As a professional photographer, Leong has travelled extensively with his cameras for over 40 years. He is a founding member of the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers and its chairman in 1992-1994, and organised the first and second "Hong Kong International Photo Festival" in 2010 and 2012 as chairman of the Hong Kong Photographic Culture Association. He has won local and international awards, has published 12 personal photo books and 11 in collaboration with others, as well as major stories for international magazines such as National Geographic. He was awarded the "Certificate of Commendation for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Arts and Culture" from the Secretary of Home Affairs, Hong Kong in 2011. Latest exhibitions include 70. 40. Leong Ka Tai Photo Moments + Response Art Show at Hong Kong City Hall in 2016 and Setouchi Triennale in Japan in 2019.
