Daily necessities contain their usefulness, which probably also carry their artistic symbolisms; these meanings can be derived from the habits of life, may also from the development of the community initiation. Meanings could be personal, given by the artist, or shared by the public.
In the project of "Back to the basics" series, participating artists and art group Daniel Knorr, Kwan Sheung Chi and Videotage were invited to use their own specialties to reveal the relationship between art and material in daily life. To reorder and redefine objects, we subverted established concepts of necessities and opened up a new perspective in art.
The Artist Book project started in Romania in 2007, they had been produced in 11 countries with their respective characteristics. For ‘back to the basics' exhibition series of Oi!, artist Daniel Knorr presented his 12th edition of the Artist Book.
Inside the books you would find value-free objects collected by the artist from various public places, pressed together with a weight of about 30 tons. By this way of ‘printing' forces the objects to be embossed, artist would like to redefine readymade objects and to reorder our daily life.
