Highlights and Objectives

  • A school-year-long educational project on literary theatre
  • Suitable for student of primary schools and special schools with different theatrical experience
  • Riding on the children stories by renowned Hong Kong writer Ho Tsz, the programme aims at teaching students to apply creativity to their theatrical performances.
  • The programme comprises appreciation of tour performance, literary talk cum guided visit at library, drama training and performances (including  Students’ performance for the Community and finale performance)
  • Participating students will have a public performance at a professional performing venue

Programme Contents

This programme is based on the stories of renowned Hong Kong children’s literature writer Ho Tsz. After reading Ho’s works, students will be guided by the instructor, to develop the performance script. By interpreting the characters, students can be enhanced and have better understanding about the relationship between literature and drama.

Besides, literary talk cum guided visit at Hong Kong City Hall Library will be arranged to enhance the understanding of students on the renowned Hong Kong writer Ho Tsz and expand their own cultural and arts horizons through exploring the resources and use of library resources.

  • The project will run for 11 months in four phases

Event Date Activities
Phase 1:
Touring Performance
September 2019 Theatre Ronin will tour all participating schools with a demonstrative performance of Idioms from  Dreaming World of Ho Tsz and highlight the features of the project in order to recruit students
Phase 2:
Literary Talk cum Guided Visit at Hong Kong City Hall Library (1 session)
September 2019 Students and teachers of participating primary schools and teachers of special schools will join a guided appreciation session of Dream World of Ho Tsz to enhance their understanding on renowned Hong Kong children’s literature writer Ho Tsz, as well as how to obtain more information from the library to deepen their understanding about the works. Visit is also arranged so that students can understand more about the library, and expand their own cultural and arts horizons through exploring the resources of library..
Phase 3:

(18 sessions for Primary School, 20 sessions for Spcial School)
October 2019 - June 2020 Theatrical Training Workshop
Instructors highlight the creative motives of writers, and work with students to create their unique characters and plots for drama training.

Theatre Art Workshop
Guided by the instructors, students would learn how to use objects, costumes and props to create their own unique stylings.

Rehearsal Workshop
Students will rehearse and prepare for the finale performance.

Phase 4:
June to July 2020 Joint Schools Finale Performance (1 session)
To be staged and performed publicly at a professional performing venue, students will share the learning outcome to the public. There will be post-performance talk, students, teachers and audiences can exchange about the creative process and their personal feelings of the programme.

Students' performance for the Community (1 session)
Students will present their finale performance at social welfare organizations located in the neighbourhood of their school, as to show their love and care of the society.
