This project covers four aspects:
“Hands-on Experience”, “Feel the Music”, “Dance Knowledge” and “Achievements Sharing”.

“Hands-on Experience”:
Through learning dance techniques and performing, students will become more confident and able to explore beyond the academic sphere. They may find opportunities to develop their potential, and learn about more future career paths

“Feel the Music”:
Lessons will be guided with music accompanied by dance performances, to let students better understand their bodies.

“Dance Knowledge”:
The instructor will not only teach students dance techniques, but will also introduce them to terminology and the historical background of dance, to broaden their knowledge and deepen their understanding of dance.

“Achievements Sharing”:
Students will be able to participate in the "Learning Achievements Show Time!" finale performances, to share their learning achievements with schools, parents and students.

The project will run for 11 months, from September 2017 to July 2018, and will be implemented in four phases:

Event Date Activities
Phase 1:
In-school Interactive Dance Demonstration
September 2017 The dance demonstration will last about 30 minutes, performed by professional Hip Hop and Jazz dance dancers, demonstrating characteristics of both dances. Students will also be invited to participate in live dance games. These simple interactive dances and demonstrations by professional dancers aim to enhance students’ interest in Hip Hop and Jazz dance.
Phase 2:
Training Workshops (14 sessions)
October 2017 to March 2018 Hip Hop
Music is a major element of dance, and how the body moves with it is equally important. The instructor will teach students basic movements of Hip Hop, for example the four types of Groove: Up Groove, Down Groove, Bounce and Drop Groove. Students will learn Groove dance movements and Groove terminology. They will also freestyle with their learnt basic dance movements, then match and link them with musical rhythms and textures.

Practice-oriented workshops, to help students apply basic Hip Hop movements, then integrate them with music and match them with individual performance styles, eventually allowing students to smoothly perform the movements.

Jazz dance
Workshops will be divided into two parts: "Theory" and "Practice", as dance is not merely physical movements, but an art that requires students’ deeper understanding and knowledge. By covering both parts, students will be able to attain all-round development.

The instructor will introduce students to the historical background and the five types of Jazz dance, as well as Jazz dance terminology and techniques (such as Jazz hand and Chest isolation). The instructor will guide students further to put theory into practice. Through professional guidance and demonstrations, the instructor will help students learn basic Jazz dance skills in a correct way, and enable them to slowly improvise along with music.

Practice-oriented workshops with the instructor teaching different dance routines, students can proficiently integrate techniques they have learnt into dance segments. Students will also understand the continuity of dance, and the integration of body movements and music.
Phase 3:
Final Rehearsal
April to June 2018 Students participating in the finale performance will rehearse at Studiodanz’s studio together with the students from the partner school. This can widen students’ horizons, let them experience the facilities of a professional dance school, and be prepared for the finale performance.
Phase 4:
Finale Performance
July 2018 The performance aims at enhancing the confidence of students in this project and their ability to express themselves through movement. To let more students know more about Hip Hop and Jazz dance, a lecturer will be invited to the performance to introduce both dances and share related videos. A show time for professional dancers will also be arranged. The emcee will even invite audience to participate in live dance games and to feel the surging atmosphere.
