Cantonese Opera Excerpts

Lo Faa Dong
Zhou Yu, the naval general of Eastern Wu, has negotiated with Liu Bei about the return of the borrowed county of Jingzhou a couple of times. But, his plans are yet to achieve success. Zhou Yu cannot let go of being foiled by his rival Zhuge Liang twice. He deploys Lu Su on a mission in hopes of taking over Western Sichuan on behalf of Liu Bei for a return of Jingzhou. In fact, the plan is to secretly attack and takeover Jingzhou when the opposition lowers its guards. The plot, however, is once again seen through by Zhuge Liang. By the time Zhou Yu has brought his troops to the city, Zhao Yun and his army are already waiting to fight back. They also convince Zhou Yu to leave. Knowing that his rivals are well prepared, Zhou Yu dares not launch the attack and orders his troops to retreat. At the order of Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei disguises himself as a fisherman and hides in Lo Faa Dong to wait for Zhou Yu and his troops. He then ambushes the company and captures Zhou Yu, who coughs blood after suffering such a humiliating defeat.

When they are pursued by the heavenly soldiers, the crap nymph confesses her true identity to Zhang Zhen. Zhang Zhen is deeply moved by the love of the carp nymph and vows to stay with her forever despite that she is not human. The tribe of aquatic creatures attempts to defend the crap nymph and battle with the divine but eventually loses. But sympathising with the couple, Bodhisattva Guanyin saves the carp nymph.
